Position Title: Food Service Porter

Reports To: Food & Beverage Operations Manager

Position Summary:

The Porter responsibilities will be setting up events, running food and breaking down in both dining and catered events. They promote a positive image of the property at all times and greets guests with a pleasant and friendly manner. Works as a team player, assumes a pleasant and helpful demeanor toward guests and co-workers to ensure guest satisfaction. Exemplifies Stanford Faculty Club & Guckenheimer/ISS core values of honesty, integrity, respect, commitment and quality.

Position Characteristics:

A successful Porter possesses the desire to contribute to the overall success of the Stanford Faculty Clubs Restaurant and Events. They will be prompt when completing daily/weekly tasks. They must be well versed in professional communication with the aptitude to exercise discretion. They need to provide excellent customer service with the utmost professional integrity. They are courteous, enthusiastic, and show initiative with coworkers and guests.

Essential Job Functions: *including but not limited to*

Must be able to communicate in English with customers and have professional verbal and written communication skills.

Understands their schedule will be based on operation needs and will therefore fluctuate from day to day and week to week.

Able to read BEOs (Banquet Event Orders) and help execute the setup of all food and beverage items.

Be familiar with and knowledgeable of all meeting room sets and standards to achieve superior room functionality.

Be familiar and knowledgeable about room cleanliness and room condition standards and strive to maintain the meeting/banquet room integrity.

Be able to set-up banquet function per standards and specification set by Catering.

Responsible for the setup, servicing and break down of all catering events and dining room.

Assist servers in running food for buffets and plated meals/events.

Maintains proper and adequate set-up of server stations on a daily basis. This includes requisitioning and stocking of all glassware, silverware, linen, hot and cold non-alcoholic beverages.

Has the knowledge, skills to perform proper table service and event set-up, familiar with table sizes and capacities, proper table settings and experience in fine dining etiquette.

Ability to perform under pressure effectively for extensive periods of time while maintaining Professionalism

Must be able to correctly and safely use standard service equipment, steam tables, pairing knives and chafing dishes.

Must be organized, detail oriented, reliable, responsible, dependable, and fulfilling all obligations.

o Ensures public areas are clean and well stocked.

o Provides and maintains a clean, sanitary, comfortable and tidy environment for guests and club visitors

Arrive on time for all shifts, in proper attire as dictated for the event/service.

Ability to lift and move multiple tables and chairs and podiums weighing up to 75 lbs. through a crowed area. This position requires considerable physical activity on a continuous basis throughout the shift from room set up and break down

Is comfortable accepting constructive criticism and has the ability to remain calm under high stress situations.

Clean and sanitize work areas and equipment and must follow ISS/Guckenheimer, and government regulatory rules and procedures.

Workplace Safety, Food Safety guidelines, HACCP, MSDS, proper handling of chemicals guidelines, ServSafe practices policies, and SOPs are followed daily.

o Must follow all safety rules and actively prevent accidents.

o Maintains a safe work environment at all times and complies with all safety and security policies.

Periodically monitor and address the buildings restrooms for trash and towel restocking; performs custodial duties in public areas and restrooms, maintaining premises in a clean and orderly manner during business hours.

Periodically monitor and address trash, dirty glassware, and other left behinds within the buildings drinking areas- tasting room, banquet rooms, outdoor patio, etc.

Attends monthly safety and team meetings.

Requires the ability to be flexible and adapt to change.

Additional Responsibilities and Job Requirements:

Move, lift and transport cases of wine (40-50 pounds each) within the building and where needed.

Monitors and reports necessary repairs, replacements, damaged, or missing items.

Responds to guest and manager queries and calls for support when needed with issues such as spills and broken glass.

Perform additional tasks as assigned; may include tasks outside of job description.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

Required certification: ServSafe Certificate or Food Handlers Card.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED and one-year minimum experience in a similar position. Knowledge of cleaning, sanitation products and proper techniques and methods when using them. An ability to work in a cooperative manner with coworkers. Able to multitask as well as give and receive constructive feedback.

Work efficiently, both independently and as a part of a team. Be organized, exercise sound judgement, perform detailed tasks; understand, follow, and receive clear verbal and written direction

Physical Demands:

This position routinely requires standing, walking, holding/carrying, reaching, twisting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, kneeling/squatting, sitting, climbing stairs/ladders. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs and stand on feet for up to 8 hours per day, excluding breaks. Must arrive to work properly dressed according to dress code (Non-slip shoes, black slacks and clean assign button up/blouse) and be able to work under pressure with time deadlines during peak periods.

Having a flexible work schedule.

Weekend, evening, and holiday availability required.
