It's fun to work in a company where people truly BELIEVE in what they're doing!We're committed to bringing passion and customer focus to the business.Summary:The Food Service Specialist is responsible for food service tasks and cooking at a Mental Health Residential (MH Res) program for up to 20 individuals. This position plans monthly or weekly breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, orders food and supplies, and monitors and prepares healthy, balanced meals. The Food Service Specialist communicates with employees regarding resident dietary needs/issues which may include preparing special/modified diets. They are responsible for the operation of the kitchen and dining area including setup, cleaning, and maintenance. The Food Service Specialist is also responsible for monitoring budgets and compliance with all Department of Health (DOH) food safety regulations. The Food Service Specialist reports directly to the Residential Supervisor or designee.This position is part of our Adult Mental Health (MH) Services Community Residential Rehabilitation (CRR) Program.Full Time (40 hrs a week) Monday - Friday 10:30AM - 6:30PM with some flexibility.Wage Information:Base rate $19.50/hr. Experience is taken into account for potential higher starting rates.Job Description:
  • Maintains, updates recipe files, and revises recipes for quality and quantity of food.
  • Operates kitchen equipment such as ovens, broilers, fryers, and mixers used in the production of menu items.
  • Ensures that all residents are offered a balanced meal and modifies meals to meet dietary and religious needs of individuals.
  • Prepares ingredients and cooks meats, vegetables, casseroles, soups, and sauces according to menus.
  • Reviews census and menu data, adjusts recipes accordingly, and recycles leftover food to reduce waste.
  • Ensures the dining area is set up prior to meals being served.
  • Cleans floors, work surfaces, and other work areas in the production area.
  • Washes and cleans cooking utensils and equipment.
  • Sanitizes the kitchen and dining areas after each meal.
  • Ensures that kitchen equipment is maintained and communicates the need for maintenance and repairs.
  • Provides individual and group education on topics such as nutrition and whole health.
  • Supports individuals who wish to make changes to their nutrition and/or whole health.
  • Willing to learn and model the five principles of trauma informed care; safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, and empowerment.
  • Commitment to promote cultural, racial, language, and gender access, diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, practices, and procedures used in a quantity food production operation.
  • Knowledge of food production safety and sanitation standards.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use and care for kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the types and qualities of cooking ingredients.
  • Knowledge of balanced diets and portion control.
  • Knowledge of the methods and procedures used in requisitioning supplies.
  • Ability to estimate and prepare an accurate quantity of food needed for the individuals.
Qualifications:
  • Experience as a food services specialist, food services worker, or cook; or in food preparation operation; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
  • Experience using an online grocery shopping/ordering system.
  • ServSafe Certification Preferred.
  • Experience working in a food services environment regulated by the Department of Health preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle.
