School Food Service TECHNICIANSLocation: Site Level SchoolReports To: Principal and School Cafeteria Manager and Food Service Field ManagerFLSA Status: Non-ExemptSalary Range: Per WBR Salary ScheduleTerms of Employment: 9 MonthsGENERAL OVERVIEWUnder the direction of the Principal and the School Food Service Manager, cooks and serves meals tostudents and teachers. Assists in serving the food and cleaning dishes and floors to assure propersanitation.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Inventories, orders, and manages all food items and related supplies
  • Cleans and prepares dining area
  • Assists with the receiving and storage of food delivery
  • Washes and stores dishes once dry
  • Cleans, maintains and operates equipment
  • Assesses supplies of milk and juice daily
  • Ensures food is prepared and served in a sanitary environment
  • Portions foods accurately with portioning tools
  • Performs basic first aid and reports and accidents
  • Prepares meals for students and teachers
  • Assists with the orientation of new workers
  • Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers
  • Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance.
  • Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service
  • Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or other proper authority
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or GED. Must have knowledge of various kitchen equipment and tools and knowledge of various food preparation techniques. Knowledge of first aid practices and procedures and ability and knowledge to practice safe and sanitary working habits. Preferred- supplemented by work experience in the preparation of food. Must complete a CPR courseABILITIES AND SKILLSWork Environment: The School Food Services Technician will work in an environment adhering to the School Board energy policy. Workday consist of regular school cafeteria hours. Then length of the workday varies as the result of evening activities or emergencies. In addition, job responsibilities may require work on weekends or holidays and attendance at meetings.Communication Skills: The School Food Services Technician must be able to effectively communicate in English both orally and in writing. Must have ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication system and must be able to communicate successfully with students, teachers, parents, school personnel, and the community.Equipment Used: The School Food Services Technician should be able to use a telephone, audio-visual equipment, computer, scanner, copy machine, laminator, calculator, and other appropriate machines and equipment relative to school food servicePhysical and Mental Involvement: The School Food Services Technician must be able to perform these physical activities: standing, walking, reaching bending, and lifting 40 pounds (sometimes required). The School Food Services Technician must be able to plan and implement appropriate financial projects and reports. Must be able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions. Must keep accurate, up-to-date records. Must be able to comply with federal, state and parish regulations.Human Relations: The School Food Services Technician must be able to work cooperatively with district personnel and the community. Must be able to respond appropriately to supervision and accept commendations and recommendations.
