Purpose This position prepares quality, nutritious meals for students, faculty and staff at SASI.Essential Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities
- Complies with and supports all Shiprock Associated Schools' policies and procedures.
- Integrates the School philosophy, vision, and mission statements into area of work.
- Ensures compliance with associated regulations.
- Performs a variety of food preparation duties with little or no assistance for breakfast, lunch, and dinner services.
- Complies with regulations, procedures, and time frames necessary for participation in supplemental school meal programs.
- Follows recipes/menus and make immediate recipe adjustments concerning quantity and availability as needed to ensure quantity and quality.
- Assists in planning menus, takes advantage of foods in season and when availability.
- Plans and orders appropriate quantity to ensure sufficient ingredients to serve meals.
- Completes Production Record keeping on assigned days.
- Complies with safety and sanitation regulations (Navajo Nation, New Mexico, State, and USDA) in all stages of food preparation and serving.
- Assists with unloading food shipments assuring proper rotation of food items utilizing First in First Out
- Assists co-workers in food preparation, serving of meals, and cleanup.
- Attends all required trainings and associated meetings.
- Provides a safe and clean work environment with the assistance of Facilities.
- Assumes responsibility for own professional growth through an on-going trainings, professional development days, licenses, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.
- Follows Food Service Department and SASI Policy and Procedure manuals.
- Performs other duties as assigned, within your scope of practice.
Minimum Qualifications Experience:As determined by Tribal and State standards.Education:A High School diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE).Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal relationship skills.
- One year experience working in Food Service preparation in a National School Lunch Program is required.
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, vendors, and community members.
- Knowledge of proper food handling techniques and the ability to apply them.
- Must have current food handler's permit.
- Ability to operate basic Food Service equipment properly using safety procedures and methods.
- Ability to manage demanding situations in a changing work environment.
- Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work and to meet deadlines.
- Must have or able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification and a Navajo Nation food handler's permit.
- Must pass federal background check required per 25 C.F.R. Part 63.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (Din/English).
- Associate Degree in culinary arts or related field.
