General Job InformationJob SummaryPrepares food for cooking by washing sorting, counting, peeling, and/or dicing fruits and/or vegetables; prepares salad ingredients; counts and pans eggs for cooking; breaks eggs for scrambling or other purposes; slices tomatoes; pulls cooked meat from bones; pans meat such as bacon or sausage or fish for next day's meals. Opens canned food containers. Places vegetables in cooking vessels. Greases pans for broiling and baking. Makes bottles and labels juices and nourishments. May be required to help load a variety of food carts and containers. Required to push carts to and from serving areas and/or accompany delivery truck. Cleans kitchen area, washes pots and pans: cleans food carts, carries out trash; cleans trash area; mops floors and washes walls. Cleans loading platforms and adjacent areas used by food service personnel. May be required to assist in receiving foodstuffs and supplies, inventory, and store them appropriately in refrigerators, cabinets, and storerooms. May be required to clean storerooms and refrigerators as necessary. Attends and actively participates in classes and on-the-job training for Food Service Workers. Applies training received in the performance of food preparation and food service duties. Maintains a record system which includes food and refrigerator temperatures, etc. Assures proper care and use of dietary equipment used to perform assigned duties. May be assigned to other units as necessary due to personnel shortages, etc. and the ingredient room. Performs related food preparation and food service duties at luncheons and special affairsRESIDENCY PREFERENCE AMENDMENT ACT OF 1988A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment.
