Position: Food Service WorkerReports to: Food & Nutrition Services ManagerStatus: Part-Time | 8:30 am - 12:30 pm, Mon - FriSalary: $17.00 / hourThe Biome SchoolThe Biome is a tuition-free, k-5, public charter school that provides a unique academic experience for children who live in the City of St. Louis. The Biome engages children in an individualized and challenging educational environment, enriching minds and cultivating confident, creative builders of the future.Work Hours and CompensationThe Food Service Worker position is part-time with compensation paid every two weeks. This is a Monday through Friday, hourly position, and it is classified as non-exempt. The position is not eligible for benefits.Position DescriptionThe Food Service Worker performs a wide range of duties including, but not limited to, preparing and serving food and beverages, cleaning work areas, equipment, and utensils, as well as setting up and serving school meals.Essential Duties and Responsibilities* Sets up food service, kitchen area, equipment, and utensils. Checks food temperatures and prepares areas for daily operations.* Transports food and supplies from the main kitchen to the serving areas.* Follows prescribed procedures in setting up hot and cold food lines, ensuring the appropriate temperatures for menu items.* Replenishes food, utensils, and other items needed for serving.* Attends to day-to-day issues concerning equipment and food supplies. Checks dates to ensure food safety and appropriately disposes of foods that are no longer safe; ensures that supplies are sufficient, and equipment is in good working order.* Cleans, sanitizes,and maintains work area, including floors, pots, pans, service utensils, and equipment.* Track student meals in Easy Apps and communicate via email with parents/guardians about student meal accounts, as needed.* Attend meetings, in-service training and workshops,as assigned.* Other duties as assigned.Requirements* At least one year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified* High school degree or GED* Experience in food preparation, kitchen maintenance,or a related field.* Must be reliable: arrive and depart on time and must be committed to the assigned tasks.* Must be willing to learn the sanitation practices required for handling and serving food.* Able to follow routine verbal and written instructions.* Able to safely use kitchen equipment and supplies.* Able to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties.Licenses and Certifications* Must participate in available training and complete required certifications and continuing education / training hours to meet USDA professional standards.To apply, please email the following items to ...@thebiomeschool.org:* Resumé (not to exceed two pages; 12-point font)* Cover letter, which explains the candidate's interest in the position as well as the skills and experiences that make the applicant a good candidate for the position (not to exceed two pages; 12-point font)Phone calls will not be accepted.
