SUMMARY: The Food Service Worker is responsible for preparing, facilitating, and maintaining food programs and kitchen/cafeteria areas on a substitute basis. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (Other appropriate duties may be assigned.)
- Perform any and all tasks deemed necessary by the Director of Food Services (or his/her designee), to facilitate the provision of meals to students pursuant to the regulations of the National School Lunch Program and/or its associated programs. These tasks include, but are not limited to, food preparation, food service at meal times, operating a cash register encouragement toward healthy eating, and clean up of any equipment and kitchen areas related to the preparation, serving and consumption of school meals according to the USDA Child Nutrition Program Regulations and HACCP procedures.
- Prepare hot and cold food items as assigned by the Food Service Manager
- Preparation of serving lines and serving meals for each lunch period.
- Review and complete items assigned daily by the Food Service Manager, Assistant Manager/Cook, FSD or AFSD in addition to completing tasks assigned on the Job Task List.
- In addition to the above duties, a food handler may be directed by the Food Service Manager/Assistant Manager to perform tasks related to Food Service vending operations and/or Special Events catered by the Food Service department.
- Safe operation of all cafeteria equipment.
- Clean-up and sanitation of cafeteria area, equipment, and serving lines following HACCP procedures.
- Operation of dishwasher and 3-compartment sink for proper sanitation of all food service small equipment (i.e. lunch trays, hotel pans, sheet pans, utensils, etc).
- Other duties may be assigned.

- Combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of weights, measures and portion control

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate verbally. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be louder for three hours per day.
- The use of chemicals is daily related to washing dishes and use of the dishwasher.
