Position Title: Decatur Food Services Supervisor
Job Summary: Responsible for leading, organizing, and operating a commercial kitchen to serve a 24-hour Shelter, and various weekly meal programs to the community.
Reports To: Corps Officer(s)
Qualifications:
The Food Services Supervisor is the nerve center of The Salvation Army's food services, coordinating all kitchen activities and overseeing the work of the culinary volunteers and staff. They are responsible for maintaining kitchen standards, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, planning menus, ordering supplies, and training new employees. A kitchen supervisor also plays a vital role in maintaining client relations and dealing with any kitchen-related complaints or queries. Candidates must have a passion for fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army and must be articulate in presenting the same to others. Candidates must successfully pass the pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check with a valid driver's license. Candidate must have a background in Cooking, nutrition, and/or hospitality services. Candidate must have all current Food handler certifications.
Education:
- Associates/Culinary Degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Food Services Supervisors manage the operations of the kitchen and help streamline the cooking and food preparation processes. They ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen, upholding safety and quality standards.

- Ability to manage people and projects successfully efficiently and effectively.
- Team player, self-starter, and perform well with minimal supervision.
- Must have an interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
- Ability to establish policies and procedures, holding others accountable to the same.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
- Demonstrated awareness of budget resources and cost control, as well as planning and administering budgets.
- Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email, MS Office applications, Internet and Social Media platforms.
- Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary. Flexible availability is essential.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Prepare food for all Salvation Army programming including but not limited to Shelter, Youth Program, Women's ministry (Home League), Senior Luncheon, Sunday Community breakfast, and monthly Advisory Board luncheon.
- Cook food with various utensils, oven, grills, stoves, and deep fryer, set up workstations in the kitchen for an organized system with volunteers.
- Prepare meals in timely manner, food should be appealing to the eye and pleasing to the pallet.
- Knowledge of various cooking procedures (grilling, baking, boiling, roasting, frying, barbequing, etc.)
- Ability to follow recipe directions including slicing, cutting, mincing, chopping, stirring, whipping, etc.
- Maintain a clean, well-organized, and sanitized kitchen in the main building and Social Services, Work with a team of volunteers, Communicate needs to supervisor.
- Maintain inventory of frozen, fresh, canned, and dry goods for all meal services.
- Hold all required certificates for kitchen employees and Health department and other agency inspections.
- Maintain proper storage of leftovers in accordance with acceptable standards
- Contributes to holiday celebrations.
- Participates in overall Salvation Army Programs, provides overall feedback for constant improvement.
- Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices.
- Maintain compliance in The Salvation Army's Safe from Harm Certification and related legal based training requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned as related to the essential responsibilities.
Travel may be required.

Physical Demands/ Work Environment:
This Position is required to do basic business and office work. To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to talk and listen, stand, walk, sit, and use hands. Individual must be able to regularly lift to 30 pounds and occasionally lift to fifty pounds. The use of Office and Computer Equipment is necessary. Vision abilities will require close vision. Work may be performed indoors and occasionally require outdoors to attend meetings. There is low to moderate noise level for this position.
