Job ResponsibilitiesDo you have a passion for food safety? Do you have a keen eye for details? Do you like finding resolutions to different situations? If so, then this Food Surveillance Coordinator position could be a great opportunity for you! in this role you will:* Monitor and follow up on food complaints received on the online food surveillance system.* Assist with environmental assessments during clusters and outbreaks of food borne illnesses, including gathering information for tracing food sources as part of investigative team.* Obtain implicated and suspects products for laboratory testing as part of foodborne outbreak response team.* Help with preparation of reports for Rapid Response Team (RRT) grant.* Serve as the main point of contact for submission of National Environmental Assessment Reporting System (NEARS) data during outbreaks.* In collaboration with other agencies and other stakeholders, assist with summer feeding program to include, but not limited to maintaining database, conducting virtual inspections, and reporting issues.* Assist walk-in customers and those calling in with submitting online retail food applications.* In collaboration with leadership, maintain, improve, and develop written procedures for staff with regard to conducting investigations during food borne illness outbreaks.* Work closely with other departments to resolve issues that are beyond your scope.BENEFITS* Generous State benefits to include retirement, health, vision, dental and life insurance.* Premium for BCBS State Standard Plan for employee only coverage is less than $100/month!* Premium for BCBS State Standard Plan for full family coverage is only $307/month!13 paid holidays; generous annual and sick leave accruals.Up to 6 weeks paid parental leave.Employee Assistance Program* Free counseling sessions for employees and household members* Free Life Management Services (legal, financial, and more)Minimum and Additional Requirements* A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences or a related field. Natural or physical science may include, but are not limited to Food Science, Nutrition, Agriculture, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Environmental Science, Public Health, etc.* An associate's degree in the natural or physical sciences or related field and two (2) years of environmental health or a high school diploma and four (4) years of environmental health or related experience, such as Food Safety/Service Industry, may be substituted for the required degree.* A valid State driver's license and ability to operate a motorized vehicle.Preferred Qualifications* Knowledge/Experience in food, sanitation, food safety, or in the food service industry.* Knowledge of applicable state and federal food laws and regulations.Additional Comments* Ability to communicate effectively with various audiences and prepare clear, concise and comprehensive reports.* Must work effectively in a transparent, team-oriented environment and prepare reports / written correspondence with accurate technical regulatory language.* Ability to exercise judgement in applying and interpreting policies, procedures, rules and regulations, be detail oriented, and highly organized.* Occasional in-state travel may be required.* This position is based on the campus of the Columbia State Farmers Market in West Columbia - it is not a remote position.
