Position Summary...
This is a sensitive and critical position which utilizes SOPs and/or established methods to analyze client genetic/DNA samples to provide reliable, quality results which, in many cases, must withstand legal and governmental scrutiny.
This is a safety sensitive position as defined by state and federal laws that will require working with hazardous materials and/or handling medicine. As a safety sensitive classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Position Duties...
* Utilizes commonly concepts, practices, procedures, and instrumentation native to a forensic laboratory.
* Works with little or no supervision and performs serology and DNA testing of forensic materials to include analysis, evaluation, quality control, reporting and courtroom presentations
* Uses established process to maintain a secure Chain of Custody of evidence and preserves the evidentiary value of forensic materials
* May communicate directly with law enforcement agencies and attorneys
* May provide expert testimony in court to explain laboratory findings
* Maintains and calibrates lab equipment
* Interprets forensic test results
* Publishes reports to explain forensic data
* Maintains forensic case files and records lab findings
* Performs quality checks on lab supplies, chemicals, etc.
* Cleans lab supplies and equipment
* Performs technical reviews in areas where qualified
* Trains new employees
* May perform laboratory tasks such as DNA extractions, quantitation and PCR to process forensic samples
Position Requirements...
* Must have bachelor's or an advanced degree in a biology, chemistry, or forensic science-related field
* Must have 12 credit hours of course work in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry and Statistics/Population Statistics
* Must have at least 2 years of forensic analysis experience in a human forensic DNA laboratory using Megaplex PCR kits
* Testimony experience preferred
Work Environment...
This job operates in a professional office and laboratory environment. Attendance at the office is required.
This role routinely uses standard laboratory and office equipment such as centrifuges, pipettes, computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.
Physical Demands...
Must be able to lift 30-50 pounds and stand for long periods. This would require the ability to lift supplies, open cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
