Position Summary:The Behavioral Health and Justice Division (BHJD) of the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS) employs Program Coordinators who perform essential coordination functions for programs within BHJD. BHJD Program Coordinators work directly under unit supervisors and/or managers to support programs for justice-involved individuals with behavioral health challenges. Program Coordinators serve as team leads, providing leadership in program tasks and goals. They coordinate workflow for programs and heal assign tasks to appropriate staff. Program coordination seeks to improve program quality, efficiency, and effectiveness through organization and communication wit the team. Program Coordinators work closely with other BHJD and DBHIDS programs and units to ensure alignment, coordination, and integration across the Division and Department.The Veteran Initiatives Unit (VIU) Coordinator provides supportive services to Veterans referred to the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS). The VIU Coordinator will support Philadelphia Veterans with behavioral health needs, including those who are involved in the criminal justice system, by assessing their need for treatment and support and assistance with the social determinants of health. This position requires special focus on the unique needs of Veterans by assisting them to navigate the intersecting complexities of behavioral health, Veterans support resources, community resources and justice system involvement for those facing criminal matters. The position will also assist DBHIDS to implement a comprehensive strategic plan designed to help all seven divisions to better identify and serve all Philadelphia Veterans will behavioral health needs.Duties and Responsibilities: Work closely with Veteran Initiatives Unit (VIU) Manager to provide supportive services to those Veterans referred to the Department through Philadelphia Veterans Court and other referral sources.Perform outreach functions by developing relationships with community resources helpful to Veterans in need. The VIU Coordinator will also perform outreach to Veterans in the community such as those that are homeless or dishonorably discharged to connect them with resources and supports.Promote the knowledge of available service options and choices for Veterans and promote the utilization of natural resources in the community.Provide opportunities for individuals receiving services to direct their own recovery and inspire hope that recovery is not only possible but probable; teach and support acquiring and utilizing skills needed in the person's recovery.Assist Veterans by helping them to understand their benefits and entitlements and to utilize those to their best advantage.Track project outcomes and data to include monitoring veterans progress in the treatment and imputing that data into various tracking systems.Work with units throughout the seven divisions of DBHIDS to better identify and serve Philadelphia Veterans with behavioral health needs, including training and orientation on the unique needs of Veterans.Along with the VIU Manager, provide trainings on Veterans and behavioral heal, including Crisis Intervention Team training for the Philadelphia Police Department, trainings for the seven divisions of DBHIDS and other training opportunities as assigned.Skills Required:Must be a Veteran with knowledge and experience in working with Veterans resources. Must have good verbal and written communication skills and work well with people without regard to race, religion, color, sex, sexual performances, age, national origin, disability, behavioral health status, military status or any other characteristic protected by law. Must have good, creative, problem- solving skills. Be able to work independently and as a team leader. Be flexible and adaptive in handling changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment; must be able to use computer to record services. Preference given for prior experience working with criminal court or criminal justice environment.Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in social science or criminal justice field required, with Master's level coursework preferred. Must have 5 years demonstrated experience in working to support Veterans. Experience supporting justice involved Veterans preferred.Essential Functions: Valid driver's license and use of personal licensed and insured vehicle during work hours or the ability to use public transportation.
