This is a salary exempt level position Facility Background: The 804 Specialty Oils plant is located in Quincy, IL and employs 70 ADM teammates and 10 contractors. The plant produces vegetable oil used in everything from feedstock for biodiesel to specialty oil for baby formula. Our most common finished products are food grade oils for bakeries and other food production facilities. We have the most diverse portfolio of base stock oils (13) and over 200+ possible finished product codes of any ADM refinery. We have completed a recent expansion for refined and bleached soybean oil that can produce 3 million+ lbs/day. Position Summary: The Formulator's responsibilities include formulating oil blends to meet customer specifications, scheduling daily production processes, and coordinating shipping of oils with sales and logistics personnel. This position is also extensively involved in quality control, food safety, and interaction with oil sales and logistics. The employee will work in a liquid edible oils handling plant environment. This position reports to Refinery Leadership. Job Responsibilities: Creates process schedule based on customer orders and process capabilities Creates loadout schedule based on finished product and customer orders in coordination with supply chain coordination position Manages inventory for incoming and outgoing orders in coordination with supply chain coordination position Balances orders between customers and transportation methods Balances production and quality KPIs while managing limited tank inventory Works with operations and quality to produce the highest quality product Learn the physical properties and how it relates to customer needs for 200+ blends of oil Learn physical layout of the plant infrastructure relating to finish product blending Emphasizes and requires safety, food safety, environmental compliance with regulations in the performance of all work Supports and actively participates in Quality and the Food Safety Management Systems, including investigation and corrective action of quality non-compliance Evaluates upcoming orders and schedules product runs and raw material needs and deliveries Evaluates product specification sheets, product lab data and creates product blends to meet customer requirements Conducts, reports, and tracks production and commodity inventories Interacts directly with oil sales, oil logistics, quality control, and oil customer support teams Interacts directly with department leaders and shift supervision to produce desired operational results Demonstrates prompt, excellent verbal and written communication skills to work successfully with operators, supervisors, superintendents, quality, supply chain, trucking, sales, customers, and railroad teams Actively participates in the Performance Excellence (PE) and monthly safety engagement Continuously strives to improve scheduling and streamlining data flow with technology, such as PI Vision and Excel and acts as change agent On-call schedule required including weekends and holidays, typically rotating with the supply chain coordinator On-call responsibilities include completing operational, rail, and truck mission on weekends and accepting phone calls regarding formulating questions Occasional off-hours calls relating to formulating may occur during weekdays Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities Job Requirements Operational knowledge of refinery processes and/or experience with fats and oils chemistry Experience with quality control (laboratory) Ability to problem solve, employ critical thinking, and multitask Excellent communication (spoken and written), listening and teamwork skills Excellent leadership ability, planning, and organizational skills Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel, Teams, OneNote, Word, and PowerPoint with desire to enhance skills through education and training Strong computer skills including use and creation of Excel and Pi Vision tools with desire to enhance skills through education and training Strong interpersonal and conflict management/resolution skills Able to work independently from direct supervision majority of time Cost and yield conscious Regular and prompt attendance Expectation to learn the supply chain coordinator/inventory management role Working Conditions: Dust, oil mist Chemicals / Irritants Spring / Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees. Outside temperature may also reach 100 degrees with potential for high humidity. You may be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and wind. Fall / Winter: Temperatures inside and out of the location may be at or below freezing. Outside you may face inclement weather including freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind. Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift. Physical Requirements: Able to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis, up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis and up to 55 pounds overhead. Lifting or carrying weights over 50 pounds is rare. Employees are encouraged to request assistance in lifting or carrying objects that weigh more than 50 pounds. Able to traverse up to two (2) miles during a workday. Able to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling or squatting frequently. May also require periods of prolonged sitting or standing. Able to operate equipment or diagnose / detect issues of machinery that may be located at different heights. May require work on ladders, scaffolding or other work at heights. Requires a full range of physical motion to operate manual and electrically powered tools and test equipment, to move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings, and to work at heights. Able to safely and appropriately wear a respirator as conditions require.
