About the Role As a Frontend Software Engineer at Opentrons, you will play a crucial role in building out software applications and features used by our customers. The software you mostly work on will be used by customers to run scientific protocols on their liquid handling robot and carry out maintenance tasks on it. This role requires a strong background in web technology front-end software development. This is a full-time, onsite position at our headquarters in Long Island City, NY. What You Will Do •Develop and maintain frontend applications that enable our customers to execute scientific tasks on liquid handling robots •Apply your knowledge of ReactJS and web technology to improve single-page applications running in Electron •Work independently on features and bugfixes •Work with the guidance of more senior engineers on larger projects and refactors •Work with more junior engineers on smaller features and changes and help them develop Who We Are Looking For Education: •Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant experience Experience: •2+ years of experience in building high quality user-facing software for customers. •Previous professional experience with ReactJS •Experience with user interface development and web technology interface patterns Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: •Understanding of software development best practices and design patterns. •Ability to work independently and as part of a team. •Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications: •Experience with web technology programs outside the browser (ElectronJS) •Nice to have: Experience with robotics •Nice to have: Experience with operating system APIs and interactions •Nice to have: Experience with MQTT, Redux, Vite, ReactQuery •Nice to have: Experience in the life science space Compensation: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $115,000 and $140,000 per year; base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience. We typically target mid-range for well-qualified candidates. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including equity and full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. Following employment, growth beyond the hiring range is possible based on performance.
