**JOB SUMMARY**

The Shop Manager oversees the daily operations of the Midwest Motor Express maintenance facility while maintaining a fleet of equipment used in freight transportation. Responsibilities of the Shop Manager include assigning, monitoring, and performing hands-on maintenance work of diesel tractors and various other road and dock equipment. The Shop Manager is also responsible for minimizing downtime of company equipment, containing repair costs, and ensuring a safe working environment.

**SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:**

* Bachelor's or Associates degree, preferably in mechanical or automobile engineering

* 3+ years' experience managing a maintenance facility for a fleet of tractors/trailers and maintenance team members (Experience may be substituted for education).

* Thorough knowledge of safe working practices, DOT, OSHA, and other federal and state regulations.

* Advanced knowledge of diesel equipment drivetrain, electrical, hydraulic, and in-cab technology systems

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

* Experience in managing maintenance shop budgets.

* Valid Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 3 months

**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**

* Perform scheduled maintenance functions on assigned company equipment.

* Ensure regular servicing and maintenance of all company tractors and equipment.

* Handle all aspects of personnel functions including hiring, discipline and terminations.

* Responsible for timely entry of repair orders, purchase orders and vendor invoicing in maintenance software.

* Assign work areas, time schedules and tasks to all shop employees.

* Train employees in duties and ensure timely and accurate completion of work required.

* Coordinate the purchase of inventoried parts, tools and other repair equipment.

* Maintain a safe working environment that is tidy and efficient.

* Ensure the appropriate training, use and handling of testing tools and repair equipment.

* Test drive company equipment to ensure repairs are complete and equipment is functioning appropriately.

* Maintain good communication with Supervisor regarding department work, issues, personnel situations.

* Various other duties as assigned.

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**

* Excellent attention to detail.

* Ability to work well in a team setting.

* Effective computer skills with ability to input vendor invoices, repair orders and maintain the computerized maintenance records according to DOT standards.

* Ability to perform under pressure and in time-sensitive environments

* Must be able to perform physical job duties including bending/stooping, climbing ladders/stairs, pounding with hammer and work in confined spaces.

* Must be able to operate heavy equipment.

* Ability to work an average of 50 hours per week total.

* Ability to be on call for overnight and weekend emergencies.
