Fuels Analyst Our client is a major privately owned Power company and a primary energy producer for the state of Georgia with a goal of providing reliable and affordable services across a diverse power generation portfolio. Location: Atlanta, GA Summary: Plays a pivotal role in managing coal procurement and transportation program at Plant. As a Fuels Analyst, you will initially focus on coal, with added responsibilities for natural gas over time. Oversees coal procurement, inventory management, and railcar logistics while supporting our gas and fuel oil strategies. This role also provides cross-functional visibility and interaction with various departments and external partners, ensuring adherence to corporate policies and co-owner agreements. Strong coordination skills will be essential in managing complex transactions and billing processes related to fuel. Job Duties Coal Program Management
- Coordinate coal, railcar, and transportation procurement.
- Evaluate bids for cost, terms, and conditions.
- Implement corporate risk management policies and Dodd-Frank compliance reviews.
Trading and Scheduling
- Execute hedges and assist with hedge system administration.
- Buy, sell, and schedule physical gas to support generating facilities.
- Manage fuel oil trades as needed.
Industry Monitoring
- Stay updated on energy news, industry publications, and utility IRPs.
- Assess impacts on Company and provide strategy recommendations.
Co-Owner Interaction
- Serve as Company's backup representative on the Scherer Fuel Committee.
- Maintain communication with GPC/SCS Fuels Department and co-owners.
Billing and Reporting
- Validate and investigate complex billing reports and coal stock ledgers.
- Resolve discrepancies with GPC/SCS.
Process Integration
- Develop integrated processes among internal functions.
- Provide technical support on coal, gas, and oil issues.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Assist in creating transportation, gas price, and coal budgets.
- Conduct quarterly coal forecasting.
Dispatch Rate Communication
- Set and communicate monthly dispatch rates for Company generating units.
Job Requirements Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
- 1-3 years of relevant energy industry experience (coal, natural gas, utility operations). Experience with coal procurement, natural gas supply and pipeline assets is preferred. Knowledge of electric power generation and co-op structure is a plus.
Equivalent Experience
- 2 years in an analytics-heavy role such as engineering, planning, forecasting, finance, audit, or accounting.
Specialized Skills
- Familiarity with co-op structure and natural gas/power market economics.
- Strong organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and MS SharePoint.
- Strong Excel and programming skills preferred.
