Who We AreSince its founding in 2010, Challenge Preparatory Charter School (Challenge Prep) has provided students and families with a successful academic program in Far Rockaway, Queens. We currently serve over 1200 scholars from Kindergarten to 12th grade across 3 sites. Our school's mission is toprepare students from the greater Far Rockaway community to excel academically, to demonstrate mastery of the NY State Learning Standards, and to achieve their career aspirations. Challenge cultivates and supports the intellectual, aesthetic, social, emotional, and ethical development of its students and prepares them to be responsible 21st century citizens. To accomplish its mission, Challenge offers a rigorous instructional program in a safe, supportive, technology-infused, and data-enriched social-emotional learning sequence, authentic field experiences, career counseling, and college coursework. It is understood that we are one organization with multiple sites, and it is expected that all members of the team collaborate to support all of our scholars.Understanding the RoleThe School Aide is responsible for performing duties that help staff, teachers, and students to provide an educational-focused working environment. Duties include helping out in classrooms, the office, the lunchroom, at recess, and throughout the building/district as needed. This is a full-time position. The School Aide should assist teachers in supervising students throughout the school year. He/She helps with record-keeping, class attendance, and grading assignments. The School Aide attends staff meetings so that they can provide support to teachers and students in all areas of instruction and learning. The School Aide is often expected to work with a variety of small groups of students struggling with a particular subject.Roles and ResponsibilitiesSupervising student arrivals, dismissal, and late arrivalsSupervising sessions of recess and lunchMonitors students during assigned periods within various school environments (classroom, restroom, hallway, recess, busing, field trips, lunch, playground, etc.)Assists in preparing instructional materials and helps students in the use of these resourcesMaintains a neat and orderly classroomStraightens chairs, tables, clears chalkboards, etc.Assist operational and teaching staff with tasks that include but are not limited to:Maintaining storage and supply areasAssisting with unpacking/checking materialsMaintaining student filesUpdating bulletin boards throughout the buildingMaking copies and distributing materials to classes or studentsSupport after-school and family events, as necessaryQualificationsTrained in CPR to effectively manage an emergency situationStrong commitment to an inclusion model of education; experience with an understanding of the urban learning environmentAt least 2 years of demonstrated success in a school settingAbility to build a strong school culture and positive relationshipsBilingual/Fluent in SpanishSound judgment and ability to navigate challenging situationsHigh expectations for all aspects of school and ownership over resultsStrong work ethic, is reflective and continually seeks to learn and improveBe a team player - a desire to work in a team-oriented environment and collaborate effectively with colleaguesCompletion of Food Protection: Four-hour Certification Course for Soup Kitchen and Camp WorkersSalary$43,000 - $45,000 a yearSalary based on qualification and experience.#J-18808-Ljbffr
