Salary: Depends on Qualifications Location : Hamlet, NC Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 00288 Division: Administration Department: Human Resources Opening Date: 10/30/2024 General Description: Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Specialist will perform a full range of duties within the areas of confidential and complex technical and administrative duties. Maintenance of personnel records; supporting the recruitment process, filing and preparation of related correspondence and reports; and, providing information and assistance in person and on the telephone to College employees and the public regarding personnel matters. Serve as back-up in the absence of the HR Director. Essential Duties of the Position:
  • Provide support for the Director of Human Resources in all areas.
  • Key all new hires into E-Verify and maintain all I-9's including retention and purging. Report new hires to the State of NC. Process background checks on all new hires and communicate results to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain organizational charts.
  • Maintain job descriptions for all full-time positions.
  • Assist employees with open enrollment and serve as liaison to arrange benefit representative visits during open enrollment.
  • Prepare and complete New Employee Orientation. Assist with enrolling new employees in benefits and processing benefit changes. Maintain an adequate supply of employee benefit resource material.
  • Create new employee files and file documents into appropriate employee files.
  • Responsible for ensuring all employees have official transcripts and verifications on file and provide a copy to the appropriate person.
  • Process employment verification and state service forms/requests on current and past employees.
  • Manage employment listings and vacancies including creating requisitions, advertising, and posting positions on internal and external websites and manage applicant files. Follow the process through an online applicant tracking system (ATS), monitoring qualified applicants, answering any questions from applicants, and communicating the progress of the hiring process to the HR Director.
  • Set up interviews. Prepare interview folder for the Interview Committee. Attend and monitor interviews when needed. Maintain Position Vacancy documentation including retention and purging.
  • Evaluate applicant qualifications and make recommendations for interview to the President, appropriate Vice President, or hiring supervisor.
  • Assist the HR Director with the contract renewals and annual performance appraisal process for permanent employees.
  • Other duties. (Willingness to accept and fulfill additional assignments.)
  • Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of the institution with special reference to the total fulfillment of the open-door policy. Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail and deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with employees, the public, and students. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with absolute discretion. Minimum Education and Experience: Associate degree in Business, Accounting, Office Administration, or related field required. Two years of experience in Human Resources with a strong focus on employee relations, benefits administration, and employee onboarding preferred. Knowledge and understanding of state and federal employment laws and regulations preferred. Excellent customer service skills required. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.
