The Minnesota Star Tribune has a great opportunity for a full-time Pressroom Paper Handler to perform material handling duties to support the maintenance of our newsprint inventories and press plate making. The successful candidate will unload rail cars and trucks, preparing newsprint rolls, monitor and program our robots (technically called our automated guided vehicle AGV system ), use platemaking software to control flow of press plates, and light housekeeping of our newsprint warehouse and department.Key Responsibilities
- Performs newsprint handling duties, including unloading rail cars and trucks, roll preparation.
- Monitors AGV (robotics) system for loading and unloading of large newsprint rolls.
- Performs press plate making duties, including use of platemaking software to control flow of press plates.
- Light housekeeping of newsprint warehouse and department.
- Gets work direction from newsprint leaders and reports to the Production Operations Managers.
- Frequently interactions with Press department and other production departments.
Qualifications
- 3+ years material handling/warehousing experience preferably in a large volume manufacturing environment dealing with the handling of raw materials utilized in the production process.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge utilizing software which controls machines a plus.
- Requires the physical ability to walk frequently during a 7.5 hour shift, , climb, lift up to 25 pounds frequently, drive forklifts and clamp trucks.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience working in a deadline and high volume driven environment requiring problem solving and multi-tasking a plus.
Schedule: Full-time. Shift schedules are based upon an annual bid process. It is anticipated that this role will be evenings 8pm to 3am with either Sundays and Mondays off or Wednesdays and Thursdays off.
