Position Type: ParaprofessionalsDate Posted: 8/15/2024Location: Middletown High SchoolDate Available: '24-25Closing Date: Until FilledFull-Time Paraprofessional - Special Education - Additional Adult Support POSITION OVERVIEW Under direction of the Building Principal, the Paraprofessional assists teachers by performing a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well-being. Works individually and in small groups to reinforce instruction, monitor performance, and support learning. This position also performs a variety of instructional and classroom management supports, as well as related clerical tasks to support teachers and other professional staff in all classrooms or learning environments. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position.   • Assists in providing a safe and encouraging learning environment to meet the students' needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, maintain confidentiality, accept constructive feedback and maintain an atmosphere that promotes student learning.
  • Supports the classroom teacher in instruction by engaging in planning, following plans outlined by the teacher, and working with individual students/small groups.
  • Supports the classroom teacher in assessment by monitoring independent work, collecting academic/behavioral data, and assisting in keeping accurate/current record of student progress.
  • Supports the classroom teacher in organization by performing clerical duties, assisting in gathering/developing instructional materials, and maintaining an organized work environment.
  • Demonstrates characteristics of an effective team member by engaging in problem solving, and exhibiting flexibility, and cooperation.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Works continuously toward self-improvement through the active pursuit of professional development activities.
  • Implements School Board and school-based policies and procedures in order to uphold school regulations.
  • Assumes other responsibilities and perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Educational Resources/Executive Director of Teaching and Learning
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Below are the qualifications for this position:
  • High School diploma and passing ParaPro scores or a minimum of 60 college credits.
  • State of Delaware Paraeducator Permit required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, administrators, and parents.
  • Experience in working with students of varying abilities
  • Excellent communication, organization, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, 504 and IEP's.
  • Criminal background check and Tuberculin testing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position: The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing, or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. In some instances, the employee may be required to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to students and/or other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities, including the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. The employee may be required to frequently stand, sit, and/or remain in a stationary position for long periods of time. The employee may be required to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.   • All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
