Job Description:
Communities First, Inc. is a Michigan-based nonprofit 501c3 whose mission is to build healthy, vibrant communities through economic development, affordable housing and innovative programming. CFI is focused on providing safe, quality affordable housing, increasing economic opportunities, and improving the quality of life of the populations that the organization serves. Job Summary: The Fund Development Coordinator will perform administrative duties related to fundraising, grant writing, and donor development. They will gain firsthand experience in strategic planning to increase the capacity of Communities First, Inc, a growing non-profit organization. Additionally, the Fund Development Coordinator will be involved with activities related to non-profit fundraising and relationship management, including working with the team to create and implement fundraising, development, as well as donor and grant research and tracking. Essential Functions:
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of the Development Plan that incorporates a range of strategies including annual appeals, major donors, grants, corporate sponsorships, individual appeals, social media and special events
  • Support events and other committees, including taking meeting minutes and sending them to committee members in a timely fashion
  • Work with committees and Fund Development Manager in establishing and adhering to event budget, assist with event preparation, and attend events to assist in set up, implementation, and clean up
  • Assist with the production and implementation of appeal, campaigns, sponsorship requests, and other fundraising communications and strategies
  • Coordinate affiliate social media outputs including event outreach and visibility strategy. Assist in managing development assets for the CFI website
  • Assist in grant research and tracking
  • Perform administrative duties as needed including filing, copying, sorting, mailing, etc
  • Record donations on an ongoing basis in the donor database and generate acknowledgments and thank you letters.
  • Design and run reports and assist with database maintenance
  • Attend networking events with the Fund Development Manager to increase professional network, refine relationship management skills, and enhance CFI outreach and capacity
  • Other duties as assigned
Education: Bachelors Degree is preferred Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Training, and Experience:
  • Three or more years of experience in nonprofit fundraising with a focus on gifts and donor relations
  • Blackbaud Raiser Edge or equivalent database experience (preferred)
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Possess strong work ethic and demonstrates initiative; shows commitment and desire to work in an entrepreneurial, team-based environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport, establish trust, and inspire confidence with donors
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate the organizations mission, impact and funding priorities
  • Familiarity with nonprofit fundraising best practices, ethical standards, and legal requirements related to giving and donor stewardship
  • Proficiency in donor management software
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization, with a passion for making a positive difference in the community
