Master's Degree and appropriate Ohio licensureKnowledge of mental health diagnostic criteria and appropriate interventionsKnowledge of group/individual counseling theories and appropriate use of such with children and familiesOne to two years related experience preferredSuccessful completion of BCI/FBI background checksPOSITION DESCRIPTION:Work with assigned student in all aspects of their situation; investigate report or abuse/neglect/exploitation, etc.; serve as liaison between courts and school; maintain necessary case records; prepare/compile social histories, intake data, and court document and referralsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The below list is not ranked in order of importance.)Ensure safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilitiesEvaluate the students using sound techniques and accepted practicesEffectively manage the case work, monitoring individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environmentPrepare clear and timely reportsMaintain accurate, complete and correct records as requiredProvide guidance and counsel to the students which will promote their welfare and their proper educational developmentAttend parent/teacher conferencesCounsel with colleagues, students and parentsAttend educational field tripsWrite required report as caseworkerEstablish and maintain working relationship with community agenciesEnsure continuity of services and community involvementMaintain and improve professional competenceEstablish and maintain cooperative relationships with parentsObserve ethics of the social workers profession; exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgmentAssist in completing agency forms as necessaryAssess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as requiredRefer students suspected of learning disabilities for diagnosis on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of districts specialists as requiredAssist the administration in implementing all procedures and rules governing student life and conductProvide information and referralsNotify parents if student is not meeting goalsTake all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilitiesDetermine eligibility for servicesEncourage and motivate students to stay in school and complete their high school educationMake contacts with the public with tact and diplomacyMaintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., family history, court documents, medical information, etc.Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parentsPromote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversationAttend conference and workshops as requiredCompile records based on federal and state standardsEnsure continuity of services and community involvementMake provisions for being available to students and parentsAct as a facilitator and information source in subject area specialtyParticipate on building teams when required and agreed uponRefer attendance, health, and psychological emotional problems to principal and/or guidance counselorInteract with superintendent and/or board of education and present information as requestedRespond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate mannerSchedule student and/or family conferencesFollow all Governing Board procedures, rules and policiesThe employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the Center.Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beingsHelp instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic valuesOTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate mannerEstablish and maintain cooperative professional relationshipsServe on committees and co-curricular activities as agreed uponAttend professional growth seminars, workshops, etc., to keep current on relevant issuesCounsel, advise, encourage and motivate studentsInteract with other departments and school personnel when necessaryInteract with public in official capacity when requiredServe on curriculum committees when requestedPerform other duties as assigned by SuperintendentADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissueOccasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditionsOccasional interaction among unruly childrenOccasional requirement to travelOccasional evening/weekend/summer workFrequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch, crouch, kneel, and stoopOccasional requirement to lift, carry, push and pull up to a maximum of 35 lbs.Occasional requirement to climb, balance, reach, stretch, crouch, kneel and stoopKNOWLEDGE OF:Ability to work effectively with othersAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writingEffective, active listening skillsOrganizational and problem-solving skillsBasic computer skillsGood public relations skillsExperience working with childrenEQUIPMENT OPERATED:Typical school technology as well as assistive technology (e.g., communication devices, etc.)TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Dates of the work period will be stated in the employment contractPERFORMANCE EVALUATION:The Social Worker will be evaluated by the building principal or his or her designee in accordance with the procedures identified by law and including the standards established by the organization.
