Position Title: FWS Student Assistant Specialist, Online Media Management Requisition Number: 040####### Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: SPE/Dean's Office Responsibilities:

The First-Gen College Access Project at the Center for New York City Affairs is seeking a social media creator and/or aspiring publisher to help run promotional and business operations at our new website at UnderstandingFAFSA.org. The website and email newsletter are focused on helping first-generation students and college access counselors understand and navigate our nation's complicated and confusing financial aid process. We work closely with students and counselors to design, craft, and test materials with the goal of making college financial aid easy to understand.

This is an ideal position for a student with a passion for web publishing, social media and/or journalism who is interested in helping first-generation college students and all families navigate the FAFSA and financial aid, avoid too much college debt and get as much free money for college as possible. You will help build the website's audience and impact working directly with schools on new product development, developing social media promotional strategies and crafting the publication's search engine optimization (SEO) strategy. This is an ideal position for a student interested in the creator economy and/or learning all aspects of online media management. Training will be provided.

This work-study position is for 10-20 hours per week with flexibility around the semester schedule. All work and meetings can be remote, though we hope to organize an in-person team meeting occasionally. This is a federal work-study position with the possibility of evolving into a permanent student position.

The New School is strongly committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and particularly seeks applications from members of underrepresented groups, as well as candidates who share this commitment. We are particularly interested in hearing from students who are among the first in their families to go to college. Your perspectives will be invaluable to this project.

Responsibilities include some or all of the following (depending on abilities & interests):

* Assist Project Director and team with business and promotional operations for the website, including efforts to increase readership, newsletter subscriptions and book sales.

* Assist with newsletter blasts and social media outreach work. Help with Mailchimp layout, setup, and email promotion work.

* Monitor and report on website and social media key performance indicators (KPIs) including web traffic patterns, email growth and social media viewership.

* Assist Project Director with scoping out and launching new initiatives, including Amazn book sales and new short-form video offerings on social media.

* Work on the team developing one or more audience research/UX projects working directly with first-generation high school students and their college access counselors.
