RESPONSIBILITIES
Community:
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate intern to join our team as a Teacher's Assistant Reading Tutor for elementary-aged students. This work-study position focuses on assisting and tutoring students with reading, helping them develop essential literacy skills and a love for learning. This is a part-time position up to 25 hours per week, during the school year.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist the lead teacher in daily classroom activities and instructional support.
* Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions focused on reading and literacy.
* Help students improve their reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary.
* Support students with their assigned reading curriculum and homework.
* Create a positive and encouraging learning environment.
* Assist in preparing and organizing reading materials and resources.
* Monitor and document student progress, providing feedback to the lead teacher.
* Participate in classroom management and ensure a safe and respectful classroom atmosphere.
* Engage in training and professional development opportunities as required.
* Perform other related duties as assigned by the lead teacher or school administration.
QUALIFICATIONS:

* Must be an enrolled student at DeVry University.
* High School diploma or equivalent.
* Must be a current student in good standing and possess a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
* Must be enrolled in a minimum of six credits per semester.
* FWS fund eligible.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Self-directed, motivated individuals.
* People who sit around, waiting to be told what to do will not do well in this environment.
* Strong reading and literacy skills.
* Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with young learners.
* Ability to work collaboratively with the lead teacher and other school staff.
* Dependable, punctual, and professional.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Previous experience as a tutor or teaching assistant.
* Knowledge of effective reading instruction strategies and techniques.
* Experience with diverse student populations.
