GENERAL SUMMARYThe RN - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Project Coordinator plays an integral role in the seamless execution of projects within the NICU. This position involves coordinating and leading projects to drive the successful delivery of projects from initiation to completion while staying on schedule, monitoring project progress, and coordinating the team. The RN - NICU Project Coordinator identifies areas for growth and utilizes resources to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote quality care and improve outcomes, including development of performance measures, policies and procedures, education, and statistical analysis. The RN - NICU Project Coordinator will serve as a Patient Safety advocate. Reports to department leadership. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrates appropriate use of the nursing process and unit specific competencies.
- Provides age-appropriate care to the ages of patients served.
- Collects & analyzes relevant outcome, clinical and laboratory data as it relates to national benchmarks to identify areas for performance and quality improvement for submission to assigned project sponsor.
- Coordinates Blood Stream Infection (BSI) project activities to include education of staff, surveillance of catheter placement and care procedures and participation in future continuous quality improvement (CQI) and research activities.
- Monitors project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short- and long-term goals,
- Maintains project electronic files while ensuring compliance.
- Acts as a change agent to lead, facilitate, and support the improvement of clinical quality outcomes and patient safety of NICU patients from admission through Follow-up Clinic.
- Leads and directs interdisciplinary evidence-based projects to current and future.
- Coordinates Institutional review board (IRB) research projects with interdisciplinary team.
- Work closely with internal and external customers to ensure the successful delivery of project by assisting with project performance reporting, periodic project reviews and preparing accurate project reporting.
- Conducts post-project evaluation to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements to improve future projects strategies and processes.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
- Required Licenses and/or Certifications
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
- Registered Nursing License in the State of Virginia or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license required at time of hire.
- Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications
- Registered Nurse certification from an accredited program, association and/or educational institution preferred.
- Must provide record of a certification at the time of hire.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare related field required.
- Must provide record of a completed degree or academic transcript from an accredited program, college, or university at time of hire.
- Continuous re-certification and/or maintenance of state licensures, certifications, educational and application requirements
- Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's degree in nursing or related field preferred.
- Must provide record of a completed degree or academic transcript from an accredited program, college, or university at time of hire.
- Project coordination experience preferred.
- IRB experience preferred.
- Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Able to be trained in Infection Control, Performance Improvement, clinical methods and clinical research methods pertinent to assigned project(s).
- Proficiency and technical aptitude with the use of Adobe Acrobat and MS Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
- Possesses the ability to understand and follow instructions relating to basic patient care.
- Highly motivated, enthusiastic team player who takes initiative.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Excellent time management skills, able to shift priorities and able to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced, fluid environment.

- Ability to follow Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) policies and procedures and maintain confidentiality of all facility and facility-related (patients/families) information.
