Here, dedication isn't just a requirement; it's a way of life.Summary:The Greenacres' Garden Production team includes a Garden Production Assistant. This position will be employed at our Indiana location and Michaela Farm in Oldenburg. This position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of garden production and supporting the Agriculture Education team with hands-on needs and programming. This position reports to the Garden Site Supervisor. This position works collaboratively with all members of the Garden Production team as well as all Agriculture Department staff including education and livestock production teams. The Garden Production Assistant can expect to learn about; generative vegetable agriculture, get experience from seed to sales, indoor and outdoor vegetable production, cut flower production, holistic livestock practices as well as livestock integration for fertility. This position will participate in the restructuring of this farm and will experience/participate in many large farm projects being built from the ground up, a unique opportunity for any grower. Responsibilities:
  • Assist with all aspects of production. This includes seeding, planting, cultivating, harvesting, and processing.
  • Responsible for accomplishing weekly measurable goals
  • Coordinate delivery of product to farm store and maintain farm store inventory.
  • Ensure produce wash, preparation, and storage areas are neat, clean and well organized.
  • Assist with weekend watering and field assessment as needed.
  • Assist the agriculture education team as needed with lesson planning assistance, teaching asset development, and hands-on needs.
  • Ability to carry out most farm tasks competently
  • Ability to manage day-to-day work with instruction
  • Participate in planting from start to finish with minimal direction.
  • Manage pests and diseases with instruction
  • Contributor to weekly meetings.
  • Execute irrigation with direction while following a fertility plan
  • Ability to complete farm education courses.
  • Lead education groups as a chaperone and answer some questions as needed
  • Assist with garden production records.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Provide support services to other departments for the advancement of the mission.
Requirements
  • Knowledge and Experience in the areas of vegetable production and distribution
  • Knowledge of sustainable and generative agricultural practices
  • Ability to work in dynamic and extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask with minimal to no supervision
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments
  • Ability to communicate information about garden production and harvest to visitors
  • Valid driver's license with insurable driving record required
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and materials commensurate with the position (up to 50 lbs. required)
  • Ability to work full time (40 hours per week)
  • Ability to work additional hours (overtime) as needed during peak harvest season
  • Commitment to working within a functional team and collaborative culture
  • Ability to successfully pass a post-offer pre-employment drug test and fingerprint FBI background screen
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings or holidays
  • Ability to pass a drug screen, BCI/FBI background check and physical examination as required
  • Possess a valid driver's license and pass screening by Greenacres auto insurance carrier to drive Greenacres vehicles
