The Pauma Band of Mission Indians is seeking a results-oriented Garden Supervisor to oversee the garden. This candidate is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, care, and development of the garden in conjunction with the goals and objectives of the Pauma Band of Mission Indians. The Garden Supervisor manages a team of gardeners, planning and executing gardening projects, ensuring the health of plants, and maintaining the quality of the produce. This position requires flexibility to assist in other areas of the farm as needed.ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Team Management: Supervise, train, and motivate a team of gardeners, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently. Schedule work assignments and monitor progress. Provide guidance on gardening techniques and people safety and food safety practices. Garden Maintenance: Oversee the planting, pruning, watering, fertilizing, harvest and post-harvest and general care of plants. Monitor the health of plants and address any issues such as pests, diseases, or nutrient deficiencies. Ensure that garden areas are kept clean and implementing the good agriculture practices.Planning and Development: Assist in the planning and design of the gardens. Implement seasonal planting plans, and garden redesigns. Resource Management: Manage inventory of gardening supplies, tools, and equipment. Order new plants, fertilizers, tools, and other materials as needed. Oversee the maintenance and repair of gardening equipment. Health and Safety: Ensure that all gardening activities are conducted safely. Train staff in the proper use of tools and chemicals. Food Safety: Ensure that the Food Safety SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure) are updated and implemented. Ensure that the Good Agriculture Practices are updated and implemented. Train staff in the proper Good Agriculture Practices and Food safety SOPs and protocols. Visitor Interaction: Engage with visitors, providing information about the garden and its features. Lead garden tours or educational sessions when required. Ensure the garden is accessible and enjoyable for all visitors. Administrative Duties: Work on crop management and schedule for the year-round. Keep accurate records of garden activities, plant health, and maintenance schedules. Prepare reports on garden conditions and team performance. Track expenses and prepare cost estimates for projects. Plan and implement the produce harvest, post-harvest and distribution.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:High School Diploma. An associates degree in horticulture, botany, landscape management, or a related field is preferred.Experience:2 years experience working in a garden, farm, or other agriculture and working with a variety of crops is desirable.KNOWLEDGESkills and AbilitiesAbility to take direction.Strong knowledge of plants, gardening techniques, and gardening equipment; excellent leadership and organizational skills; ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions; excellent communication and customer service skills.Software knowledge, such as Microsoft Office Suite or 365, accounting systems, payroll systems.WORKING CONDITIONSMust be able to do the following:Work in weather extremes such as extreme heat or cold.Be able to work on your feet, on uneven surfaces, throughout the day.Stoop, kneel, or bend consistently throughout the day.Lift and carry up to 50lbs.Be trained and safely operate farm vehicles and machines.Maintain a safe and respectful work environment.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSMust have a valid California Driver License and be able to drive our trucks and tractor and be insurable on our policy.Must pass a security background check and drug screeningTERMS OF EMPLOYMENTAt-will.Pauma is a Drug Free Workplace: All new employees must pass a pre-employment drug screen as well as participate in random drug testing during their employment.Background Checks: Criminal and civil background checks required, including compliance with Megans Law.Hiring Preference: The Pauma Band of Mission Indians is an equal opportunity employer.
