Job Summary The general accountant's main duties include preparing financial statements, examining and analyzing a company's accounts and ensuring compliance with financial reporting and other standard accounting procedures. Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance from an accredited institution Must have 2+ years experience in an educational setting Critical thinker and problem solver; Experience with accounting software and data entry Excellent understanding of accounting rules and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Advanced Excel skills (proficiency in using tables, pivot tables and lookup functions Ability to work independently Analytical skills. Curiosity about processes and how processes can be made more efficient is essential Ability to pick-up concepts and learn new productivity tools is essential Strong attention to detail a must Strong communication skills Must be a self-starter Organization & time management Role and Responsibilities Reconciling the company's bank statements and bookkeeping ledgers Completing analysis of the employee expenditures Managing income and expenditure accounts Generating the company's financial reports using income and expenditure data Keeping a check on the company's finances based on financial status Filing and remitting taxes and other financial obligations Initiating and managing financial and accounting software used by the company. Reconciliation of and overall responsibility for assigned general ledger accounts (including investigation of variances and unusual items) Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations Liaising with other divisions as necessary Reconciling intercompany purchases and resolving discrepancies related to pricing Prepare balance sheets and post journal entries Reconciliation of related accounts and reporting for consolidation, taxation or other purposes Fixed expense analysis and monitoring: Determination of unposted fixed expense liabilities and accrual Monthly variance analysis (vs. budget, vs. forecast) Assist in budgeting functions related to fixed expenses Assist with audits and tax filings Assists finance manager in preparation of monthly/yearly closings Other duties as assigned Benefits Medical, dental, vision, free basic life insurance, supplemental life insurance, voluntary critical illness insurance, voluntary accident insurance, short-term disability insurance, and 403B with a 3% company match (Voya).
