Hurd Construction Management is seeking a full-time General Construction EstimatorWho is Hurd Construction Management?Hurd Construction Management is a Jacksonville, Florida based construction advisor and general contracting firm specializing in commercial buildouts and renovations, new construction and development where delivering a strong and consistent brand experience is crucial. Projects primarily include retail, restaurant, office and other commercial spaces throughout the entire state of Florida. Hurd also focuses on providing systematic construction program management streamlining and strengthening large scale, multi-site initiatives. What does the role pay?This is a full-time northeast Florida based role with a pay range of $78,000 to $108,000 total compensation package including annual bonus at plan. Base salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.Role SummaryReporting to the Hurd Vice President (VP), the General Construction Estimator is responsible for spearheading the development of accurate, timely and detailed job cost estimates. Responsible for forecasting project cost, gathering details and compiling data to estimate all production cost according to proposal requirements. Considers raw materials, labor, equipment, tools, and transportation for estimation. Helps determine necessary resources for projects based on cost estimates and budgetary constraints. The Estimator will collaborate broadly across the Hurd division, externally with an array of vendors, subcontractors, and business partners.Primary Responsibilities
- Accurately analyze and assess contract documents, technical construction, and architectural documents to prepare estimates.
- Identifying qualified subcontractors and suppliers for bidding opportunities.
- Invite and obtain bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Identify and quantify bid and project cost factors such as production time, materials and labor expenses.
- Analyze alternative solutions and construction methods to increase competitiveness.
- Perform research for means and methods, materials, costs and construction techniques and services to increase competitiveness.
- Develop accurate, timely and detailed job cost estimates using CSI 2012 format standards.
- Evaluate each estimate with the VP and team to determine estimate accuracy, operational efficiency, and job profitability.
- Attend Pre-bid meetings, job site visits, bid openings and collaborate with external partners.
- Recommend ways to improve estimate process.
- Value engineering.
- Analyze and evaluate bidding risks and strategies.
- Aid in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required.
- Travel to jobsites to gather information on materials needed, labor required, and other factors.
Skills and Qualifications
- Demonstrated organization skills, including planning, problem recognition and resolution skills, scheduling work and follow through.
- A work history of partnering and collaborating with all levels of an organization (internal/external) and with diverse teams of individuals
- Public speaking/presentation ability.
- Ability to create and maintain processes.
- Solid understanding of civil/site construction, foundation and structural systems, exterior building wall systems, interior finish construction systems, and mechanical and electrical systems, and associated costs.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes. Familiar with OSHA and safe work practices for the construction industry.
- Ability to work on multiple estimates simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Strict attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently and as a member of a bid and project team.
Experience and Other Requirements
- 5+ year's general contracting estimating experience.
- Bachelor's degree (Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field) preferred.
- Expertise in reading construction drawings and specifications.
- Conceptual ability to work with minimum information and quickly develop an understanding of owner/architects' requirements.
- Knowledge of estimating documents and the ability to provide accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of the documents.
- Advanced Excel knowledge and use.
- Commitment to continued professional growth and development.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required.
- Travel will be required and sometimes overnight.
