General EngineerLocation: Ithaca, NYJob Type: Full-Time & In-PersonEcolectro develops specialty polymers and electrolytic cells for green hydrogen production, fuel cell technology, and electrolyzers. Our breakthrough alkaline exchange materials exhibit high ionic conductivity and exceptionally high chemical stability. These desirable characteristics reduce device costs and enable scalable green hydrogen, promoting access to clean energy and economically sustainable fuels.We are currently seeking a junior level engineer to join the team focusing on the design, construction and deployment of electrolyzer stacks and balance of plant (BoP). This role will provide hands-on support for the engineering team, contributing to projects from conception through modeling, drafting, and assembly of completed projects. Our ideal candidate is versatile and looking to grow into the hydrogen field through broad exposure to the entire design and deployment life cycle of green electrolysis. Responsibilities:
  • CAD Modeling & Drafting: Create detailed CAD models and technical drawings for mechanical and electrical components as well as balance of plant assembly.
  • Prototype Construction & Testing: Assist in the assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of electrolyzer stack and balance of plant components including cooling systems and high-pressure fluid and gas process systems.
  • Thermal Management: Contribute to the design, integration, and optimization of thermal management systems such as cooling towers and heat exchangers.
  • Material Selection & Analysis: Assist in the selection of components and materials to ensure they meet performance, safety, and compliance requirements.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed design and construction documentation, including mechanical drawings, bills of material, and test reports.
  • Collaboration: Work within a multi-disciplinary team including mechanical, chemical, and electrical engineers as well as research scientists and business personnel.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, or electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, and others for 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with high pressure gas and fluid piping.
  • Working knowledge of thermal management systems.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and drive.
  • Strong organization and record-keeping skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) and hazards and operability studies (HAZOP).
  • Familiarity with codes and regulations such as ASME, ISO, and CGA standards.
  • Working knowledge of power electronics and power quality including voltage/current regulation, harmonic distortion, etc.
