Position Summary: Responsible for overseeing technical operations during day and evening shifts, including orienting, evaluating, and documenting the competency of testing personnel and lab aides. Ensures compliance with departmental policies, quality control, performance improvement, and safety regulations. Reviews patient test results and quality control data, taking corrective action as needed. Manages departmental expenses and productivity within budget.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Orient, evaluate, and document competency of testing personnel.
- Develop, maintain, and revise departmental policies and procedures.
- Review patient test results and quality control data, taking corrective action.
- Coordinate the laboratory Quality Improvement Program with the Laboratory Director.
- Collect data to monitor high-volume or high-impact processes prone to errors.
- Summarize data and prepare reports for internal and external reporting.
- Manage departmental expenses and productivity as per budget.
- Supervise employee schedules, approve timesheets, and monitor PTO.
- Monitor employee performance, conduct evaluations, and provide necessary counseling or discipline.
- Provide continuous training and updates on policies, procedures, and other information.
- Perform laboratory testing and any other assigned duties.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Biological, Medical Technology, or Physical Science; or equivalent exam required.
- One year of laboratory training from an accredited program if B.S. is not in Medical Technology required.
- Four years of laboratory testing in a high complexity environment required.
- Six years of laboratory testing in a high complexity environment preferred.
- Two years of experience in developing, implementing, and coordinating a Quality Improvement Program preferred.
