Kopp Glass, a Pittsburgh-based manufacturer of high-performance, custom glass products, is seeking to hire multiple reliable General Laborer's to join our team. The General Laborer supports manufacturing processes throughout the facility by performing various labor tasks on an as-needed basis. Assignments may vary from one day to the next and will occasionally include periods of intense physical labor. A track record of reliability and a willingness to perform a variety of manufacturing tasks is critical for this role. The ideal candidate must be able to work comfortably as part of a team and as an individual contributor. To be successful in this role, the General Laborer must be able to learn quickly and adapt to changing priorities while regularly checking their work for accuracy.Primary Responsibilities: The essential functions will vary based on the department that the General Laborer is assigned to each day. Typical job duties could include the following, but are not limited to:
- Prepares glass for production; includes filling pots, crushing cullet, forming refractories, and monitoring melts.
- Assists with breaking down and setting up glass production shops.
- Removes and/or inspects glass from the back of the lehr and transports it to the next applicable department for processing.
- General housekeeping and grounds maintenance including sweeping floors, changing light bulbs, snow removal, cutting grass, organizing boxes and consolidating glassware on pallets.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Performs all other duties as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School or General Education Diploma (GED)
- 1-3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment preferred but not required; this position does not involve forklift operation, warehousing tasks, or assembly lines.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must be able to work any shifts; this includes overnight, 2nd shift, 3rd shift, daylight, weekends, and holidays, as scheduled.
- Must be able to perform basic math calculations, including addition and multiplication.
- Ability to learn and perform additional departmental duties upon training; must be able to get up to speed quickly.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to PUSH/ PULL presses, kettles, batch, and cullet wagons requiring up to 100 lbs. in force to move.
- Stand - Approximately 90% of the workday
- Must be able to LIFT materials weighing up to 50 lbs.; must be able to LIFT shovels of batch and cullet weighing up to 30 lbs. repeatedly throughout shift at or above shoulder-level.
- Must be physically able to wear a dust mask & respirator while performing essential functions of this position.
- Must be able to withstand extremely hot and cold temperatures in the work environment.
