Summary of Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis position is responsible for managing the Tribe's financial accounting system, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of its financial processes, and supporting the Finance Director with special projects. The role requires high professional standards, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to interact positively with diverse populations, including Tribal members, staff and management.
General AccountingEnsure daily, weekly, monthly bank reconciliations of all cash accounts for the Tribe are completed.Ensure monthly reconciliation of all the investments for the Tribe are completed.Performs monthly reconciliation of all the debt for the Tribe are completed. Ensure debt payments are made in a timely manner (due date).Preform monthly reviews and reconciliations of accounts receivables and travel advances.Maintain and manage manual check inventory in compliance with policy.Prepare and post monthly journal vouchers for month-end reconciliations.Reconcile balance sheet accounts (excluding fixed assets) within the requested time schedule.Reviews, investigates and corrects errors in financial entries, documents and reports.Inputs budget and budget modifications.Create new accounts and program funds as requested by Finance Director.Prepares journal entries and reconciles general ledger and subsidiary accounts.Interacts with external auditors in completing audits.
Tax ReportingTobacco TaxManage and safeguard inventory of tobacco tax stamps and ensure proper record retention.Ensure and maintain records of tobacco tax revenues and business licenses.Reconcile tobacco tax stamps with tax collections and track issuance.Perform other duties as assigned to promote the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.

Qualifications - Education - Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field from an accredited university, OR three (3) years relevant experience.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of financial management experience, preferably in government or Tribal settings.
Skills
Strong knowledge of fund accounting and modern automated accounting system. Excellent customer service skills with high professionalism, autonomy, and maturity in working with customers (internal/external), peers, and managers, including when in stressful situations and while under multiple deadlines. Advanced proficiency in Word, Excel, and Microsoft Office/365; additional software knowledge a plus. Knowledge of Federal, State, and local accounting systems and control requirements. Knowledge of generally accepted professional budget and accounting principles and standards. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with employees, departments, vendors, and the general public while maintaining confidentiality in daily operations.Other Requirements:
Ability to pass an extensive Tribal, State, and FBI background checks (no criminal arrests). Pay Range: $45,000 - $65,000 per year
