Job Description - General Ledger Accountant - Office of Budget and Finance (24000002I3)The University of Tennessee, Knoxville is currently seeking applications for a General Ledger Accountant II in the Office of Budget and Finance (OBF). OBF is in the Knox Campus Central Business Office and providessupport to university administrators in monitoring and tracking the financial status of the campus. As part of the OBF team, the position serves as the campus central point of contact for managing and oversight of payroll suspense accounts to ensure data integrity and accurate financial reporting. The position works in collaboration with various university stakeholders to resolve discrepancies with payroll postings and implement corrective actions. The position provides direction, guidance and support to ensure compliance with university fiscal policy, internal controls and best practices as well as develop, maintain and deliver training to constituent groups.Duties include, but are not limited to:Manages payroll suspense accounts in Oracle Cloud to ensure data integrity and accurate financial reporting.Maintains, reviews and reconciles general ledger accounts, specifically related to payroll suspense.Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll corrections and adjustments.Collaborates with departments, units, Financial Management Compliance (FMC), UTSA Payroll Office and Human Resources to resolve discrepancies with payroll postings, implement corrective actions, and ensure all payroll-related entries are recorded accurately in the general ledger in a timely manner.Provides direction, guidance and support to departments and units in making corrections to labor distribution schedules in compliance with university fiscal policy, internal controls and best practices.Develops, maintains and delivers training on the labor distribution payroll process as needed to departments.Analyzes and reviews current labor distribution processes to recommend process improvements and enhancements.Adheres to payroll deadlines.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or directly related field3-4 years of experience in professional accounting, finance or a directly related fieldKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to create and deliver quality training and the ability to explain corrective actions to a diverse audienceAbility to provide excellent customer service, over the phone and in person answering standard questions regarding status of requests, policies and procedures for processing transactions, &/or instructions for completing paperworkStrong problem solving, management, planning, interpersonal and organizational skillsAbility to conceptualize, plan and organize multiple assignments effectively to meet changing priorities and deadlinesFunctional knowledge of Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionAbility to analyze processes to make process improvement recommendationsPreferred/Desired Qualifications:2-3 years work experience in general ledger accounting is highly desirablePreferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Strong background in general ledger accounting, reconciliations and clearing suspense accountsKnowledge of university and campus policies and proceduresThe Knoxville campus of The University of Tennessee is seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.
