Job Description: SUMMARY: The General Machinist must be proficient in the operations of all controlled equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Must have ability and willingness to operate any machine tool as necessary.
  • Will act as temporary operator on machine tools where needed and will not be assigned on a permanent basis to any one machine tool. This includes shifting from one machine tool to another may possibly take place during a work shift.
  • Must have ability to fill the job qualifications of any machine to which he is temporarily assigned.
  • May be required to assist supervision in break-in or training of employees.
  • May be required to repair or manufacture jigs and fixtures.
  • May be required to work temporarily on inspection, layout, etc.
  • Responsible for removing, cleaning, and crating rolls as required.
  • Responsible for assembling gears, bearings and housings on rolls as required including final assembly and know proper fits and procedures.
  • Must provide sufficient basic hand tools to properly perform the duties of his classification.
  • Must exercise care in preventive maintenance on tools or equipment assigned as part of his responsibility.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • A technical degree/certificate in machinery or 2-3 years of related experience.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY: This position does not directly supervise other associates. WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Bend, squat, climb, grasp, reach, lift, or otherwise move about frequently and for extended periods of time.
  • Lift, move or otherwise transfer up to 50 lbs. regularly, or more occasionally.
  • Walk, stand, or otherwise move about continuously.
  • Exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards which may require personal protective equipment.
  • Grasps items and performs keyboarding for the occasional operation of a computer.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
