Job Summary: Constructs, repairs and maintains wooden structures such as furniture, equipment, partitions and other parts of the hospital buildings, using hand tools and power tools according to written and oral instructions. Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities. Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: Calculates quantity of materials needed and requisitions lumber, hardware and other supplies. Selects stock, tools and supplies such as nails, screws and glue to repair wooden structures. Removes and replaces broken or busted hardware. Repairs partitions, doors, windows and floors, furniture and building framework, using power tools such as planers, sanders, saws and drills or hand tools such as planes, chisels, rasps and saws. Reads blueprints or specifications to determine procedure of constructing cabinets, furniture, partitions and other wooden articles. Measures and marks in prescribed dimensions on wooden stock using rules, tape measures, calipers, compass and marking pencil to guide cutting operations. Assembles wooden pieces using glue, nails and screws in building such items as shipping crates, stands, display racks and instruments and equipment cases. Demonstrates knowledge and can identify each patient's age-specific needs to promote a safe environment needed by the patient group. Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality. Assists with maintaining the preventive maintenance program(s) to ensure uninterrupted operation of the facility's electrical system. Replaces, installs, repairs and tests electrical circuits, equipment, appliances and lighting systems as required. Ability to diagnose system malfunctions on electrical equipment; repairs or replaces defective parts as necessary. Performs manual duties as requested (i.e., moving supplies or furniture, replacing light bulbs, removing trash). Ability to do work on his/her own with only normal supervision. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of how to use and maintain plant tools and equipment. Requirements
- GED or High School Diploma preferred.
- (1-2) years experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
Language Skills: •Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. •Additional languages preferred. •Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and blueprints.
