Posting DetailsPosition Information Position Title General Maintenance Technician Job Description The General Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine building maintenance tasks in the following areas: general maintenance, painting, minor repairs, carpentry, electrical, plumbing and general cleaning. The position works in-site in Itta Bena, MS and reports to the Facilities Management Manager.Job Duties
- Perform minor repairs and /or replacement of electrical fixtures, devices, and appliances as required
- Perform minor repairs and/or replacement of plumbing fixtures, valves, and other devices as required
- Perform carpentry work as required to repair windows, doors, hardware, screens, and furniture
- Assist in setting up for campus events
- Assist Grounds Department by blowing off sidewalks, edging, running a weed-eater, picking up limbs, emptying trash receptacles, pressure washing and other duties involving grounds maintenance
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Some college or technical school or degree desired
- Three years' experience in the care and maintenance of similar facilities; or any combination of education, training, or experience
- Ability to work within the overall organization of Facilities Management and work with skilled and unskilled personnel and administrators
- Strong oral and written communication skills and be able to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to express ideas effectively and concisely
- Must be willing to seek training to enhance or learn new skills
- Must be accessible and available in the event of emergencies or when needed to meet the ongoing missions of the University
- Must possess and maintain a valid Mississippi Driver's License
Preferred QualificationsPhysical Demands
- Ability to lift, push, and/or pull minimum 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladder and step ladder
- Must be able to bend at waist, sit, kneel, lie horizontally, climb, walk, and reach as job may require
