A skilled worker will perform routine preventative maintenance and upkeep tasks, such as basic repair and cleaning, and manage building equipment and systems to ensure the facility is tidy and functional. An ideal candidate will be reliable, possess a keen eye for detail, and demonstrate manual dexterity and physical stamina. It is crucial that this position supports the mission and values of It Is Written by exemplifying the values and beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in all interactions. Authority & Accountability: Authority as delegated by and directly responsible to the Director of Publishing in accordance with It Is Written's policies and objectives.Essential Position Functions:
- Routine
- Perform cleaning activities, as needed, beyond what may be contracted to an outside vendor:
- General tidiness of building interior common areas, including floors, restrooms, lobby, worship room, and lunch room.
- General tidiness of building exterior and grounds, including windows, sidewalks, parking areas, loading dock, landscaping, and building exterior.
- Complete minor repairs of the building, such as floors, doors, walls, ceilings, painting, sanding, drilling, leak abatement, plumbing issues, electrical issues, etc.
- Maintain and coordinate care of the grounds beyond what may be contracted to an outside vendor:
- Maintaining flower beds, such as weeding, plants, and mulch.
- Irrigation repair, as needed.
- Plant/Tree care, such as planting, pruning, and removal.
- Mowing and edging of the lawn.
- Snow and ice removal from sidewalks and necessary parking areas.
- Assist with maintaining building supply inventory, such as HVAC filters, toilet paper, paper towels, and cleaning supplies.
- Perform interior and exterior inspections on regular intervals.
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks:
- Examples: light bulbs, light fixtures, HVAC filters, door operators, roll-up garage doors, HVAC systems, plumbing fixtures.
- Follow all safety codes and provide recommendations for improving safety.
- Monitor building systems:
- HVAC system
- Electric system
- Backup generator
- Elevator
- Plumbing and irrigation
- Alarm and building access
- Complete preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance needs.
- Maintain and update maintenance log to keep stakeholders informed.
- Periodic
- Assist with loading and unloading delivery trucks, when requested.
- Assist in the Warehouse or Studio, when requested.
- Run errands related to building operations:
- Examples: hardware store, Wal-Mart, Costco, etc.
- In conjunction with the Safety Committee, check functionality of safety systems, such as the fire alarm system, automated external defibrillators, and fire extinguishers.
- Collaborate with workers and other professionals during renovations, remodeling, and other projects.
- Obtain and coordinate vendor quotes for on-going maintenance, necessary repairs, and other projects.
- Recommend solutions to issues with maintaining building and grounds.
- Fulfill other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
- Qualifications, Scope, and Complexity of duties:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Two (2) years of experience in building system maintenance is preferred.

- Skills, scope, and complexity of duties:
- Successful completion of an apprenticeship is preferred.
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Suite.
- Able to operate a lift truck and pallet jack, pressure washer, personnel lift, dock leveler, and other needed equipment.
- Experienced in maintaining HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Experienced using various equipment such as power tools, hand tools, electric tools and plumbing tools at a proficient level.
- Ability to read technical manuals and drawings.
