Job Summary: The General Maintenance Worker assists the General Maintenance Supervisor in the upkeep and maintenance of all buildings. Essential Functions:
  • Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia College's vision, mission and values, and contributes to the development of the Plant and Facilities Operations Department.
  • Practice superior customer service.
  • Display respect and civility to all constituencies in all communications.
  • Attend work timely and on a regular basis during the established hours of operation; work additional hours as business necessitates.
  • Painting, including preparation and clean-up.
  • Install ceiling tile, floor tile, and wall coverings.
  • Install or hang items such as window shades, blinds, curtain rods, ceiling fans, light fixtures and bulbs, door locks and pictures.
  • Move and install furniture, fixtures and equipment.
  • Assist with installation and finish drywall and light carpentry work.
  • Assist with event set up and tear down
  • Assist with snow removal.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned
Position reports to: General Maintenance Supervisor Required Core Competencies and Professional Experience:
  • Ability to fluently read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Proficiency with the following, but not limited to: active listening; speaking; writing; critical thinking; judgment and decision making; monitoring; reading comprehension; time management; coordination; and management of personnel resources.
  • Proficiency for using a variety of computer and technology-related software and equipment, including Microsoft Office products and database systems.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with or without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.
Preferred Core Competencies and Professional Experience:
  • Two years' experience in general maintenance preferred.
Required Level of Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Other Requirements: Ability to satisfy, within the parameters set by the College and consistent with applicable federal, state and local laws, a criminal background check as a condition of employment. Special Requirements:
  • Valid Missouri Class E driver's license or ability to attain one.
  • Must meet and maintain requirements as an approved driver for Columbia College.
  • Ability to move and lift minimum 50 pounds
