- This position reports to the Business Director - Regional Venues, ATG Entertainment
- The General Manager is responsible for leading and inspiring a diverse team of people and departments including production, ticketing, marketing, food & beverage, and operations, ensuring that the venue operates to the highest possible standards and maintains it's reputation as one of the premier live entertainment venues in Detroit and surrounding areas.
- The General Manager of the Fisher Theatre heads up Broadway in Detroit and as such is responsible for delivering a world class experience for audiences, developing sales strategies and initiatives to grow and develop audiences for our Broadway series and ensuring producers and companies have a world class experience in our venue (and in the Detroit Opera House where ATG Entertainment also present shows)
- As the leader of the operation, the General Manager is the local representative who articulates the vision and strategy of ATG Entertainment/Fisher Theatre to engage and inspire colleagues, stakeholders, producers, communities and of course customers.
- The General Manager will take the lead on collective bargaining negotiations for local unions and will handle grievances and other issues in accordance with these agreements.
PEOPLE, PLACES, and THINGS
- Remodelled as a live theatre in 1961, the Fisher is adorned with marble, Indian rosewood and walnut panelling, and crystal and bronze decorative work. The original 3,100 seats were scaled down to 2,058 to ensure an intimate atmosphere and optimal sightlines. Over the last 60 years, the Fisher Theatre has been a favourite venue of many of Broadway's brightest stars such as Carol Channing, Tony Curtis and Lauren Bacall. The Fisher Theatre is the proud home of Broadway in Detroit. In March 2021 ATG Entertainment acquired the venue and expanded its programming to include Concerts, Comedy, and other live entertainment events.
- This position works closely together with central functions including, but not limited to programming, marketing, ticketing, food & beverage to ensure central initiatives get implemented successfully and local teams are supported to deliver excellence across all disciplines,
- At ATG Entertainment we put our customers first and the General Manager is ultimately responsible for implementing and overseeing our customer focussed programs and initiatives.
- This position will be based at the Fisher Theatre and is expected to work office hours and evening/weekend hours as required.
EXPERIENCE and SKILLS
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders is a must.
- A successful applicant will have several years of senior management experience, managing large teams of people.
- An applicant will need to demonstrate a strong understanding of budgeting and the ability to develop and implement an annual business plan, manage the building's operating budget, perform forecasts, and create business cases for capital improvement project applications.
- The successful applicant will be responsible for enforcing safety and security protocols and ensure compliance with local mandates, company policies, etc.
