Job Description:
General Manager Metals USA is seeking a General Manager in Greensboro, NC. Metals USA is a solid, growth oriented, carbon steel (plate, beam, and tube) distribution center servicing the defense, commercial, construction, aerospace, and fabrication industries. The General Manager is responsible for strategic planning, goal setting, and directs the operations in support of its goals. The General Manager oversees profit & loss, operations, sales and marketing efforts for Structural and Heavy Gauge Steel Products in alignment with goals and objectives. Responsibilities:
  • Creates, communicates, and implements the organization's vision and mission.
  • Formulates and implements the strategic plan and develops the strategic marketing plan. Leads sales and marketing team in structural and heavy gauge steel plate in target market.
  • Executes the organization's strategic goals that impacts sales & profitability requirements and organic growth of the business.
  • Manages daily operations of personnel, purchasing, administration and other departments.
  • Improves operational efficiency continually. Develops and maintains internal control systems to ensure accountability.
  • Develops strong relationships with external partners, vendors and advisors, as well as internal partners, including department supervisors and senior executives.
  • Develops and achieves market pricing to maximize total profit margin, product group forecasts and budgets for shipments on a monthly, quarterly and annually.
  • Executes contracts and ensures compliance. Formulates pricing decisions within contractual guidelines.
  • Serves as the primary liaison to governmental agencies as required.
  • Maximizes client engagement and works with leadership team to develop plans to meet ongoing needs.
  • Maintains awareness of both the external & internal competitive landscape, opportunities for expansion, customers, markets, new industry developments & standards.
  • Develops annual financial budget according to market forecasts and trends.
  • Ensure that the facility is in safe operating condition free of hazards; actively participates in the safety program.
  • Strives continually to improve workplace safety awareness and achieves an injury-free work environment. Develops and implements a world-class safety culture.
  • Provides leadership for employee relations through effective communication, coaching, training and development.
  • Executes all policies in the areas of quality, cost/waste reduction, OSHA, safety, on-time deliveries, customer satisfaction, employee relations and plant performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains individual knowledge/skill and experience as required to ensure optimal production and sales acumen.
  • Adheres to Reliance's Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands: Occupation requires being sedentary less than or equal to 75% of the time ( < to 6 hours per day).
  • Stand, walk, sit, hearing, talking, use of hands and fingers, hand-eye coordination, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend
  • Regularly required to work on multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions
  • Occasionally drives a vehicle to visit customers
  • Occasional air travel and overnight travel as required
  • Lift, carry, push and/or pull up to a maximum of 25 lbs. without assistance
Work Environment: May be exposed to some of the following working conditions.
  • Position works primarily in an office environment
  • When travel is required, will be exposed to traffic, flight delays, overnight travel and weather conditions
  • Quiet to Moderate Noise Levels
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in business operations, governmental contracts, marketing and sales.
  • Ten (10) years or more experience in sales and operations in the heavy steel service center industry.
  • Ability to interface & collaborate effectively with all departments to foster a success-oriented, accountable organization.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret business documents/ contracts and executes effectively.
  • Ability to communicate both oral & written effectively with both internal & external customers.
  • Ability to respond to customer information requests timely.
  • Must successfully complete Reliance's Reasonable Suspicion Training
  • Computer Literacy; utilize the latest technology to enhance growth & profitability.
