The General Sales Manager must consistently and profitably meet vehicle sales quotas through expert management and leadership of the sales team and by forecasting sales and maintaining proper inventory levels in terms of amount and vehicle types. In addition, the Sales Manager hires, trains, and monitors team member performance; resolves customer complaints; and helps with closings when necessary. Hires, trains, supervises and monitors the performance of the Sales Managers and Sales Associates. Participates in the preparation of the annual dealership forecast by projecting unit sales, gross profits, expenses, and operating profits for the new- and used-sales departments. Meets with sales managers to establish annual and monthly objectives for unit sales, gross profits, expenses and operating profit. Ensures that sales managers understand dealership policies, procedures and sales systems. Provides feedback to personnel. Establishes standards for displaying, merchandising and maintaining new and used vehicles. Establishes procedures for quick disposal of over-aged vehicles. Ensures that appropriate dealership records are maintained. Meets with the general manager to review monthly forecasts, commission sheets, productivity reports, and the profit performance of each department as a whole and each salesperson individually. Studies local market conditions, demographics, and past sales history. Makes recommendations to the general manager regarding short- and long-range advertising plans, sales promotions, staffing needs, lease promotions, and compensation plans. Addresses customer complaints to ensure high level of customer satisfaction. Creates systems that ensure ongoing sales training, including weekly sales meetings. Facilitates new-vehicle pre-delivery with the service manager. Makes sure facility is secure, well lit, and professional in appearance. Attends managers meetings as requested. Provides timely and accurate reports as required Ensures stated goals are met Complies with and enforces all safety policies and procedures Maintains a professional appearance. Other tasks as assigned. The ideal candidate has some post-secondary education (degree, coursework, certification, etc.), at least two years of experience in a large-volume dealership, and some supervisory or management experience. He or she must have a strong business acumen and sales aptitude and a willingness to accept full accountability for sales targets. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and strong leadership and motivational skills are essential. Position RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS
  • Three years of relevant experience
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact professionally with customers, vendors, and staff
  • Able to deal with confidential information appropriately
  • Strong attention to detail and interest in accuracy
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Highly professional and dependable
  • Strong computer and internet skills, including Microsoft Excel
  • Experienced with business applications and accounting software including CDK
