Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Genetics team, the Genetic Counseling Assistant performs both clinical and administrative duties to support the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our genetic services. This position requires a high degree of accuracy, strong multitasking abilities, and a customer-focused approach to ensure seamless patient experiences.
Job Description:
Job Responsibilities:
* Conduct initial intake of patient and family histories, prepare pedigrees, and manage documentation for additional genetic testing.
* Perform administrative functions, such as obtaining prior authorizations, preparing medical necessity letters, and coordinating insurance paperwork. Understand insurance criteria for testing, including Medicare and prior authorization requirements.
* Act as a liaison between genetic testing laboratories, health insurance providers, and genetic counselors to streamline processes and facilitate communication.
* Screen and triage incoming referrals based on provided guidelines to ensure proper patient flow.
* Schedule new and follow-up appointments accurately, monitor for new patient appointments, and ensure comprehensive completion of intake information.
Qualifications:
* Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or certified as a Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (NHA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or registered as a Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA).
* Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking skills, ability to multitask, and a commitment to outstanding customer service.
