Join the C-MOOR project ( and help transform genomics education by providing early research experiences for the next generation of data scientists. Our team is focused on integrating genomic data science into the curriculum, ensuring students gain hands-on research experience regardless of their institutional affiliation. As the Genomic Data Science Educational Developer, you will create lessons, support instructors, and assess the impact of CUREs covering areas such as transcriptomics ( and a newly created human microbiome modules that will be used at Notre Dame of Maryland University and Clovis Community College, CA and our partners at 2- and 4-year institutions. This position is funded for three years, with additional employment contingent upon securing further funding.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
* Create course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) by collaborating with instructors as part of building new human microbiome metagenomics modules
* Support academic and research partners with ongoing offerings of the RNA-seq miniCURE
* Develop a public AnVIL( workspace for introductory undergraduate biology instruction
* Coordinate with the AnVIL Outreach Group to ensure the online content is accessible by all AnVIL users
* Assess program effectiveness through feedback and data analysis
Qualifications:
* PhD or equivalent in Biology or related fields
* Demonstrated background in genomic data science
* Strong knowledge of the R programming language
* Excellent communication and project management skills
* Ability to collaborate effectively with educational and research partners
Preferred Qualifications:
* Metagenomics data analysis of 16S rRNA or whole shotgun sequencing
* Familiarity with educational technology and open educational resources
* Understanding of assessment strategies
* Mentorship of diverse populations, especially instructors unfamiliar with technical material
