The Geography Program at Normandale offers an AA with emphasis in Geography, provides coursework for other academic programs and prepares students for transfer.   • Be committed to the success and retention of students.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and experience in, assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of curricula and courses.
  • Participate in faculty and department meetings and college-wide committees.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree with a major in Geography; or
  • Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in Geography.

  • * These courses shall be waived for individuals who at the time of hire have: a degree in education, or have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework in the specified teaching and learning content areas, or have three years of successful, full-time (or equivalent) secondary, postsecondary, industry, or trade apprenticeship teaching experience in the field for which they are being hired. (Procedure 3.32.1 College Faculty Credentialing, Part 5, Subpart B.2)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Geography
  • Experience serving diverse populations
  • Experience teaching in a community college setting
  • Experience as a primary instructor teaching college Geography, including laboratory
  • Graduate coursework and teaching experience in Geology
  • Experience in online learning and in course delivery using web-based course management systems such as D2L
  • Experience in innovative teaching and learning approaches
  • Experience teaching laboratory courses
  • Experience in assessment of student learning
  • Experience providing specific strategies to create a sense of belonging within the classroom
  • Experience using innovative classroom techniques to support the success and retention of underrepresented students including students of color, first-generation students, and Pell eligible students
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to professional development in the discipline of Geography
  • Demonstrated pursuit of professional growth in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated commitment to participating in campus activities and professional development
