THE POSITION

In the role of Geoscientist Trainee, you will be instrumental in conducting investigations and fieldwork during emergencies and unique situations. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Geoscience Trainee, you will participate in an extensive one-year training program that integrates formal education with hands-on experience to develop the competencies required for a Geoscientist position. Your duties will involve assessing hydrogeologic and geological components of work plans and reports, which includes scrutinizing proposals and designs associated with groundwater. You will also be responsible for reviewing groundwater pump test proposals and evaluating report submissions while conducting field inspections. Additionally, you will collect, organize, and analyze various types of data, encompassing field, laboratory, and historical information, along with details from lithologic and well construction logs. Moreover, you will offer guidance and information to industry representatives, technical consultants, elected officials, and the public regarding the administration and execution of Act 2 regulations, policies, and procedures.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

* Full-time employment

* Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

* Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Wilkes-Barre.

* Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,724.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

* Possession of an active Geologist-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists; or

* A bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or a closely related field including or supplemented by 30 college credits in geologic coursework; or

* An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 30 college credits in geologic coursework.

* Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Special Requirement:

* This position requires possession and maintenance of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
