* Pay: $16.97 - $22.07 / hour

Summary

* This position provides appropriate pre-, intra- and post-procedure care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Assists the physician while performing endoscopic procedures, including obtaining tissue biopsies. Maintains endoscopes and all accessories in working order and provides preventive maintenance.

* This position works under the supervision of the director or designee and is employed by Mosaic Health System.

Duties

* Assumes responsibility for setting up and passing instruments, labeling medications, holding scopes/biopsies/loops and other needed items, assisting the surgeon/physician, and assists with circulating duties as necessary. Applies and maintains principles of asepsis and infection control skillfully.

* Assists in preparing the procedure room for procedure, obtaining needed equipment and supplies. Maintains working knowledge of assembly and function of surgical instrumentation and equipment. Anticipates the needs of equipment and instruments by the surgeon during a procedure utilizing physician preference cards.

* Handles and cares for surgical specimens according to policy/procedure.

* Prepares the operating room for the next procedure by utilizing proper cleaning techniques and returning equipment to designated area. Completes required sponge, needle and instrument counts following policy/procedure.

* Assists with positioning, prepping, draping of the patient, and with transfer of the patient to and from the procedure room. Applies surgical dressings as needed.

Qualifications

* High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Completion of surgical technologist education program preferred.

* BLS certification required.

* Minimum six months surgical technologist experience. Clinical rotation in surgical technologist program acceptable as experience.
