Works with Foundation and University partners to cultivate philanthropic support through a variety of planned giving options including bequests and other estate gifts, life-income gifts, and gifts of property. This role has an opportunity to shape programs and strategies to best engage the Mines community.Compensation: The compensation range for this position is $88,000 to $115,000 annually. This target is based on the available budget and the level and scope of the role. An offer will be made commensurate to the candidate's experience, education, and qualifications as they pertain to the duties of this position.Benefits: This role qualifies for participation in the Foundation's benefits plans. Medical, Dental, and Vision plans are offered and covered 85% by the Foundation. These plans may also cover dependents. Also partially covered by the Foundation are Short Term Disability (STD), Long Term Disability (LTD), Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D), and supplemental Life Insurance. Additionally available are a 403(b) plan with contribution from the employer and the ability to participate in a flexible spending account (FSA). Employees may participate in any number of these plans, not being required to participate in all of them.Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Guide and help direct priorities and activities in the achievement of defined goals for gift planning efforts.
  • Train development staff and fundraisers in identification of planned gift prospects, in initiating discussion of planned gifts with prospects, and in basic issues associated with various planned gift arrangements.
  • Partner with fundraising staff and University partners in developing strategies for and interacting with potential planned gift donors as well as other complex gift opportunities.
  • Develop and pursue strategies for individual prospect identification, evaluation, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • In conjunction with Advancement staff, travel to visit potential donors to build relationships, solicit gifts, and provide stewardship.
  • Manage a portfolio of prospects through constant face-to-face, phone, and email contacts to develop and maintain relationships for solicitation efforts.
  • In conjunction with others, develop strategies and marketing materials for the Gift Planning program including direct mail, magazine placement, web presence, calling program, and delivery of presentations to donors.
  • Oversee the administration of the Mines Heritage Society, including review and update of records, maintenance of public membership listings, mailing of premiums, and monitoring of recognition events
  • Monitor national tax and legal developments and utilize CSMF records and database information to identify new or untapped fundraising opportunities.
  • Monitor usage of the Gift Planning budget.
  • Work with estate attorneys and representatives as well as campus and CSMF staff to oversee bequests and estate gifts; ensure gifts are properly allocated, utilized, and recorded.
  • Guide stewardship efforts for the Gift Planning program and provide recognition to new and existing planned gift donors.
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks and special projects as requested.
  • This position may have supervisory responsibilities.
Skills/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 7 years of planned giving or major gift fundraising experience and/or experience with trusts and estates, tax accounting, financial planning or wealth management with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated track record of planned giving solicitation experience, with fundraising success in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major (six-figure) and principal gifts (seven+ figures), and success in strategically engaging and securing gifts from previously unaffiliated constituencies.
  • Experience closing planned giving vehicles such as bequests, gift annuities, trusts, gifts of real estate and other planned gifts, including drafting gift agreement language involving varying degrees of complexity.
  • Strong knowledge of current and evolving trends in charitable giving, particularly in the areas of complex estate planning tools, charitable tax law, estate and probate laws and personal finance.
  • Experience fundraising large value gifts and building relationships with individuals and organizations, preferably within a university setting. Prior experience identifying and cultivating donors to create a prospect pipeline
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to navigate through computer database systems and software
  • Ability to analyze and understand financial, legal, and estate planning issues
  • Experience in building relationships internally and externally with donors and strategic partners
  • Excellent customer service skills; anticipates customers' needs and responds with creative solutions.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex and/or sensitive data. Experience creating and delivering effective presentations with skill and confidence.
  • High organizational skills with strong attention to detail. Ability to evaluate complex problems and complicated challenges to provide solutions that will achieve broad objectives. Experience in taking initiative to solve issues.
  • Project management experience; Provides oversight for multiple complex projects by establishing & meeting priorities, milestones, and deadlines.
  • Ability to travel as needed
