Job SummaryThe GIS Analyst for Parking/Public Safety at Purdue plays a crucial role by providing parking and public safety related mapping and data analysis for the entire Purdue System. This position is a new position offering the opportunity to support decision-makers by developing maps, applications, reports, and dashboards using ArcGIS, Cognos, and Tableau.This role will contribute to maintaining and enhancing the Parking Facilities inventory, Transportation Services, Events, and Public Safety functions. As a new position, the successful candidate will work with existing datasets and identify, create, and manage new data and content to support safe, reliable, and transformative services. Additionally, the position will be responsible for creating and maintaining documentation of processes and standards. Take responsibility for ensuring that parking maps are consistently updated to reflect Purdue's changing campus. This includes regularly reviewing and revising the maps to incorporate any changes or additions. Additionally, maintain the server to ensure it is always up-to-date with the latest versions of these maps, providing accurate and current information to all users. Develop a comprehensive set of new reference maps tailored for various audiences, both internal and external. This includes creating wall maps for parking areas, administrative offices, visitors, and students. Each map should be designed to meet the specific needs of its intended audience, ensuring clarity, ease of use, and accessibility. The goal is to provide accurate and helpful navigation tools for everyone who interacts with our facilities. Develop a new system to replace the current field sheets used for inventory management. This new system should streamline the process, improve accuracy, and be user-friendly. Additionally, update and revise the existing field sheets to ensure they are up-to-date and meet current operational needs. Undertake a thorough cleanup of the data in the Parking Space layers. This involves implementing a new numbering system to ensure consistency and clarity. Remove any outdated or disused information to streamline the data. Additionally, update the space designation system to reflect current usage and requirements, ensuring that all information is accurate and up to date. Analyze, visualize, and interpret spatial data to provide actionable insights and support decision-making processes.
What We're Looking For:Education and Experience Needed:
- A bachelor's degree in informatics, analytics, information technology, geography, engineering, criminal justice/social sciences, or equivalent experience/training is required
- Two (2) - three (3) years of recent relevant experience with geospatial and CAD data, including creating maps with GIS products, particularly ArcGIS Enterprise
- Experience in creating and delivering user-based content and services, such as reports and dashboards, is essential
- Equivalent combinations of related education and work experience will also be considered
Preferred:
- Experience with Cognos and Tableau products is strongly preferred
Skills Needed:
- A strong understanding of the processes involved in the creation, maintenance, and analysis of both graphic and non-graphic data is essential
- Proficiency in GIS and computer-aided design (CAD) software, Microsoft 365/Office, and relational databases is required
- Knowledge of products, data resources, and applications specific to transportation and public safety is also necessary
- Demonstrated data management skills are crucial for interpreting and analyzing large and complex datasets using logical methods
- Analytical skills to accurately compile, review, and interpret complex geospatial data, blueprints, plans, and reports are a must
- Excellent communication skills are needed, particularly the ability to present transportation and public safety-related outcomes and methods to a wide range of audiences
- As this is a new role, a learning orientation towards building and maintaining proficiency in relevant software and technology is required
- The ability to build trusted and connected work relationships, maintain confidentiality, and use tact and discretion while working with sensitive and restricted information is essential
