*Please note that this position requires in-person work at our Bridgeport, WV, officeJob Summary: The GIS/Mapping Technician will be responsible for the creation, maintenance, and updating of Geographic Information System (GIS) databases and maps. The role involves the use of GIS software and tools to capture, manage, analyze, and display geographically referenced information within our Vetro Fibermap web based GIS. The technician will work closely with other team members to support the organization's spatial data needs and ensure that data is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible. Key Responsibilities:
- Data Collection and Management:
- Collect, compile, and integrate geographic data from various sources including data collection software, spreadsheets, satellite imagery, construction prints, and field observations.
- Perform manual data entry of legacy information into spreadsheets and GIS databases.
- Manage and maintain GIS databases, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and security.
- Perform data quality control to identify and correct errors.
- Mapping and Visualization:
- Create, update, and produce maps and other visualizations for internal and external use.
- Design and develop custom maps and GIS applications to meet specific project requirements.
- Generate spatial analysis reports and maps to support decision-making processes.
- Analysis and Reporting:
- Conduct spatial analysis using GIS software to interpret data and identify patterns, trends, and relationships.
- Prepare and present reports, maps, and data visualizations to stakeholders and clients.
- Assist in the preparation of project documentation and technical reports.
- Software and Tool Utilization:
- Utilize GIS software such as QGIS, Vetro, and other mapping tools to complete tasks.
- Perform basic programming or scripting to automate repetitive tasks and enhance GIS capabilities.
- Collaboration and Support:
- Work with cross-functional teams including engineers, planners, accountants, construction teams, and IT professionals to support GIS-related needs.
- Provide technical support and training to staff on GIS tools and applications.
- Stay updated on new GIS technologies, tools, and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, Urban Planning, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- GIS certification or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience:
- 2+ years of experience working with GIS software and tools in a professional setting.
- Experience in cartography, spatial analysis, or related fields.
- Experience with data management and database systems.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Strong understanding of spatial data concepts, cartographic principles, and map design.
- Familiarity with GPS technology and remote sensing is a plus.

Work Environment:
