Job Title:Watershed Programs Paraprofessional InternAcademic Field of Study:Geography/GIS, Environmental Sciences, Information Technology Systems, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Planning or a related field of study.Department:Watersheds - GIS ServicesAnticipated Length of Assignment:12 MonthsJob Summary: The intern will assist with various projects throughout the assignment, including, but not limited to:1. Stormwater Billing Support
- Analyze and update impervious area (IA) dataset to support the Regional Stormwater Management Program and other activities Perform data analysis, OA-QC and updates in accordance with billing procedures/guidelines. Performs data research to support QA-QC task including County Parcel Auditor sites and Billing Agent systems. Develop products (maps, data and reports) to document progress on QAIQC tasks.
2. Community Discharge Permit Program Support - OUPS Tickets Drawing Requests
- Coordinate with the Community Discharge Permit Program Specialist to understand the location being described in the OUPS ticket, navigate to that location within AGO, create a polygon, fill-in the correct attributes, download the drawings, create a file folder on the I: drive, update a Word document, then email the drawings per the instructions on the OUPS ticket using Outlook alone or Outlook and ShareFile.
- Tickets must be fulfilled within two business days.The program averages 7 per week and it requires, on average, 20 minutes to complete a request.
3. GIS Administration Support
- Create and update web maps, applications, scripts, and datasets to support District data collection and maintenance needs.
- Follow procedures to archive completed project datasets from ArcGIS Online and document as needed.
- Provide metadata creation and updates as requested.
4. Other duties as assigned.Minimum Education Requirements:Academic Status/Standing:
- Candidate must be enrolled in school or must have graduated within 24 months from the date of application.
Field of Study:
- Declared Majors: Geography/GIS, Environmental Sciences, Information Technology Systems, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Planning or a related field of study.
Degree Program Levels:Any of the following degree program levels may qualify.
- Bachelor Degree (Junior/Senior)
- Master/Doctoral Degree
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Candidate must be able to work 40 hours per week. Working hours are Monday - Friday during normal business hours.
- Candidate must be able to commit to up to a 12-month assignment with an option to extend the assignment at NEORSD's discretion. This internship program provides for a time-limited role at NEORSD with no express or implied guarantee of future employment beyond the assignment period. This position is governed by all applicable NEORSD administrative policies, practices and procedures related to temporary employees.
- The District requires protective footwear (i.e., steel or composite-toed) when working in the plants, pump stations, construction sites, public rights-of-way and other posted areas.New hires are required to have protective footwear, meeting the following criteria, on the first day of employment: 1) Must be ANSI Z41-1999 or ASTM F-2412/2413 (2005) certified, 2) Must have a steel or composite protective toe, 3) Must be, at a minimum, a 6 work boot or 6 hiker-style boot (Note: shoes are not permitted), 4) Must have a slip-resistant sole.It is also recommended, but not required, that footwear be waterproof and have included a shank to protect the bottom of the foot.
- Candidate must possess a valid driver's license with a driving record in accordance with the District's acceptable guidelines.
